Default Mandrel bending of exhaust

I was talking with a exhaust guy the other day and he is saying that if I get exhaust bent for my car that I should make sure that they use a mandrel type bender. He claims this will create better flow. Is this true ?

Yes this is true. Non-mandrel bent pipes get smaller around the area of the bend while using a mandrel ensures the same pipe diameter throughout.

He, and the guys who have responded, speaketh the truth. I can't remember the exact % of cross section a die bender eats up, but I think it is around 30%???

Either get it mandrel bent (harder to find a place to do it and more expensive usually) or buy pre-bent elbows and make your own.

The mandrel bending process maintains a constant inside diameter, even through pipe bends. Flow area remains consistent, increasing flow more than approximately 35% compared to stock, serrated bent pipes.
