What year are the rectangular exhaust tips, the ones that look like one big tip on each side not two on each side? Would I have to change my muffler to make these fit(there is two outlets on each muffler).Thanks a lot Rick

I believe 1992 was the first year of the rectangular tips. They are for the lt1 exhaust. I believe you would have to cut your tips off and weld new tips on. I am sure someone else will chime in.

The LT1 exhaust you are referring to, is totally different than the L98 exhaust from front to back. I dont think you can weld the tips on and make it look decent. I also dont think you can adapt the mufflers from an LT1 to your car. Might shop around for an afterarket muffler that looks similar. :seeya

You can buy the LT1 "style" tips to go over your stock pipes. They are bolt on units. I have seen them in MidAmerica Magazine for $130. Check out madirect.com.

Keep in mind that those tips for $130 from Mid America are actually muffler eliminators for the 84-91 (p/n 603-428). They do have mufflers also for the 84-91's but they are a little more money. $179 for black with chrome tips (p/n 603-414) and $270 for stainless steel with chrome tips (p/n 603-412).

Well, if you just want the rectangular muffler tips to place on your L98 muffler system, MidAmerica sells "Custom LT1 Style Exhaust Extensions" that adapts to 85-91 exhaust systems. They will look like the LT1 style tips without even touching your exhaust system. I think you just need to drill holes for screws. It is like a 10 minute job. They come in chrome-looking stainless steel.

:iagree: i think im going to go this way, i just find it hard to pay 50 bucks for folded sheet metal. however its most likely cheaper then buying 4 cheap tips at the local parts store. maybe ill go with the gold but then again maybe not :U

I recently had a local shop weld up some stock 95 LT1 mufflers to my Flowmaster rear y-pipe on my 89 for $25. It was an easy job and it looks great. No pictures, but check out Marcho Polo's car. He has the same setup.

I have an '89. You can find guys getting rid of the entire, good shape LT1 exhaust, like I did. Then just cut it off where your L98 y-pipe starts, weld on the new flange(obtainable from parts store) and you've got the square tips, bigger pipes, and mufflers. Easy job, requires a little skill to weld the two pipes into the flange. Not a lot of trouble for a welder/fabricater.
