Rubber shift boot install

Rubber shift boot install
Well I replaced my rubber boot around the stick shift of my 4 speed in the '65 about 5 years ago - now cracked both in front and in back - I forgot if I took off the console to put the boot on - can anybody chime in on the procedure? Thanks.

Slide the console out, but first take the ball and reverse lockout off. You might need to remove the radio side pannels if the console won't clear coming up. Unscrew the philips screws holding the boot...done....reverse procedure...done!
PS, I put a dab of silicone grease on the underside of the boot to help it slide as you use it over the years. Dennis

Console has to come out, to replace the boot.

I would go ahead and pull the side panels out before pulling the console. Even if they don't prevent raising the console up enought to remove it, they may get scratched up in the process and then you have another project to do.
