New Stereo/Radio/MP3 etc. player in my existing dash bezel.
Hey Guys:
Anybody have any good suggestions for a replacement for the stock AM/FM radio in my 68?? I'd like to move up to better technology. Don't really have a good idea of what's available...
Anybody done a similar update?? I'd like to minimize modifications to the dash area... But hey.... what does it take??
If you've already done something like this, I'd love to hear your suggestions...
Thanx.

if the car is not museum worthy, then switch out the clunker radio. shop crutchfields for your favorite brand din size and make the mod. if the next owner wants it back to stock, he can buy a new console. just keep the orig. enjoy the tunes.

crutchfields sales RETRO-Sound bolts right in with all the modern conveneinces.
No cutting required ! I recommend this unit, just installed it.

I have had a couple cars that I installed radios from Custom Autosound, didn't care for the sound or quality. About 2 years ago I bought an "original look" am/fm with MP3 or Ipod conection, 240 watts, from Keen Vette Parts, They're also a supporting vendor here on the forum. Also have a pair of 6x9's in the rear and have been happy. Easy no cut instal no separate or divorced box for cd player. CD players is the next thing to dissappear from cars. Only thing I wish I had was satelite radio!!!

Oh yeah forgot to mention this radio comes with a remote, cost about $299. Just looks better than the aftermarket products. IMHO!!

Although it's been a year since I've taken my dash apart I bought a Kenwood EZ-500 radio out of a Hyundai because I liked the dual **** look.
Also bought a lot of other stereo parts that got put on the back burner since the body off and LS1 swap...
Planned on mounting the 2 8" subs in the rear area over the #4 mounts
cutting the bezel for the CD player is easy with a dremel. They also sell the 1/2 moon shaped surround to make the player look right in the early cars with the curved bezel.

i also like the kenwood ez 500 look of the double *****.but this is what i ended up with.http://85fuelpump.shutterfly.com/pictures/76
Ended up getting a used one off ebay(still don't know if it works or not..)
Definitely not an easy product to find. If I had to do over I'd go with a full screen w/ DVD/NAV and figure out a way to mold it in.

I went with simple Kenwood single DIN head unit since I needed to replace the center gauge console anyway. Otherwise I would have opted for the Retrosound unit. Planning to install the Retrosound radio in my Mustang this summer to replace the 20 year old Custom Auto Sound radio. Just waiting for them to come with the model 2 with the I pod interface. Was pushed back from Jan to spring release

I'm of sending my radio in to this company. I like the idea of keeping the "original look".

Also, I saw the "factory look" stereo we offer mentioned (thanks for the good reviews! ). It really is a quality unit, if keeping the OEM look is important, as well as great sound and modern capabilities.

Nevermind the red X, I'm working on that as we speak. Attached is a good picture.
Hope this helps!

For those with the curved bezels I found the part number for someone who asked, figured i'd post it up for anyone else looking for the cheap route.
No offence but $225 for a bezel was too much for me, when I had mine modified and the 1/2 circle adapter for $11. A coat of paint on mine and it'll look pretty good I think.
Model number is :FP306
I bought it from

Are you looking for the bezel to use the single DIN, or a factory look stereo?
We have options for both, just the same.

And the factory look radio

Ian,
Your link shows the KH-100 which is 25W x 4. For ~$20.00 more a person can purchase the KH-300 which is 50W x 4. They are both Ken Harrison (KH) products. Just a comment.
I like the KH-300.
