Default Side Mirror Options 1965

My side mirror is original with the original glass and is in excellent condition appearance wise. The problem is the mirror will not stay in the position you place it in. It flops down as soon as the wind hits it or you go over a bump. Are there options for rebuilding these?

Thanks

You do not need to rebuild it, it still will move, Put the mirror in position and put a little bit of blue loctite on pivot ball, let dry and mirror will stay in place. Use the blue that is removable loctite.

You may need to do it again, mostly because the mirror get bumped getting in and out of car. But it will not move because of vibration or wind.

Here's a little write up by DZVette that might help.

Thanks for the tip on the blue loctite. I saw the write up in the pdf file but it doesn't address what is going on with mine.

I used some Loctite super glue and mine has been in the same position for over 3 years without moving. I just used a small dot and it doesn't show at all.

If you can carefully remove the glass, then get a spring loaded center punch. Use it all around the area of the ball. Peening the metal will tighten it up. I did this on my '67 several year ago, still hold with good resistance. Dennis

Default 2 cent fix..........

Had same issue with outside and inside mirror .. pushed mirror down to expose as much of ball as possible .. Put one drop of clear nail polish on ball . put mirror back to normal position .. nail polish will add an extra milimeter of coating to ball and was enough so that mirror stays in position .. 4-5 yrs later .. works fine
