Default Side View Mirrors 76

I have all the paint off of my 76. The car only has the drivers side view mirror. The passenger door has two holes that are filled with no mirror. I noticed the driver side mount has a couple of rivets holding the bracket in place but there are no rivets on the passenger side. I don't want to remove the fill before I know how this will mount. Anyone added a mirror? I'm guessing it wasn't standard feature.

You dont use rivets, the mirror comes with well plugs

Passenger's side mirror was a dealer option; it did not come from the factory.

Sounds like the two filled holes you found prove someone added a RH mirror to it at one time or another.

I have those and no offense but they suck, the mirror is no where near as stable as the drivers side. If the holes in your door you found are sized correctly for rivets I'd rivet the bracket on. If they've been drilled for the plugs you may be forced to use them, the holes are larger.

I added the right side mirror... They both "suck".. Although I have found a good use for them... At speed they fold in letting me know to slow down.. a little.... I want to install the "sport" mirrors from the later C3's ....

I added a right side mirror to our '76. I made a bracket same as the left side and riveted it in place and then mounted the mirror. It was a PITA to do but no slop like you get with the well plugs.

I had a feeling adding the right side mirror might not be as good as the factory after seeing the rivets on the left side. I might try and use the plugs then add a two rivets. Since the car is striped now would be the time. .

I just added the passenger mirror, I did not like the ideal of the well plugs.
But mounted that method anyway, the mounting is rock solid no problem.
for the well nuts they require 2 - 3/8" holes.
the new floppy mirror head, .... is another storey !

Keep in mind that the rivets you see on the drivers side do little more than retain a bracket on the inside of the door that the outside bracket screws into, sandwiching the the fiberglass in between. Once the mirror bracket is attached to the outside of the door, the rivets do virtually nothing. It is very similar to how the aluminum rivets hold your seatbelt brackets to the underside of the body. They just hold the brackets in place until you attach the seatbelt assembly on the inside.

Riveting a bracket to the passenger side door as is done on the drivers door will give you much the same stability.

Good luck... GUSTO
