Default How do I install Freon 134 to charge my AC

My AC repair man present me with a 2 fold solution to a contional AC leak problem that i've been experienceing with my 94. 3 years ago i'd had my Corvette's AC rebuilt now i'm experiencing a leak that drains the system every year. My AC repair man's solution was to pay him $1k to find and fix the leak or just pay him $100 every year to refill the system. sothen I went down to Walmart and bought a 3lb can of 134 Freon for $25.00" the Freon comes with a gauge + install hose" so that I can refill my car myself. question is: how do I refill or install the Freon into my Corvette?
Thanks Boonie

Do you have any refrigerant in the system right now? If you don't you're going to have to pull a vacumm to remove non condensables (air) from the system. If you do have pressure you'll be okay to charge.

$1K to "find and fix" the leak??? It's time to find a shop that will charge a reasonable rate and do the work right. A good shop will charge the system and insert a dye to find the leak. Once that is done and the leak found, then an accurate estimate of repairs can be provided to you.

Simply tossing in more refrigerant does not solve the problem. As mentioned, if the system is completely empty, a vacuum will have to be established to get the system to even accept refrigerant.

Find a good shop and have it done right so you can avoid the same problems next time.

If you want to bring your car to me I can charge it with R134 that has dye in it. When it leaks I'll be able to see where the leak is. The shop # is 916-972-8358. It won't cost $1000.
