Vette on Top of Pikes Peak
Who else has driven your Vette to the top of Pikes Peak? What a blast, even though we didn't drive fast especially with the 4 miles of construction on the way up and also the last 2 miles were also unpaved. The reason for the jacket in July? 65 mph wind with 41 degree temp. Still well worth it. No damage to vette with traffic driving slow. Later the same day, drove on Royal Gorge bridge.

Hey this looks great. Our Corpus Christi Corvette Club just got back from there last year too (7 of us). We also took the cog train to the top for the fun of it and road the train in the bottom of the royal gorge. Hope to see y'all next year at thr Vettes and Jets on the Lex 2011.

Later this month
We are heading that way later this month, but becasue of all I read about the condition of the road I was not planning on taking my car up to the top maybe now I will change my mind.

Another great drive
The road to the summit of Mt Evans is even higher than Pikes Peak and it's paved all the way.
Look closely for the Corvettes, Ferrari's and the Lotus.
BTW: The Lotus broke down on the way down.
You can walk (climb) all the way to the summit and stand on the top of the peak. That's where this picture was taken from.

I had many people tell me not to drive a vette on Pikes Peak. At least in my case, they were definitely wrong. From the ranger station where you pay to go up to the top of Pikes Peak is 18 miles. The first 8 miles were paved, followed by 4 miles of gravel/dirt that were being prepared to be repaved, then 4 miles of pavement and the last 2 miles on top have not yet been paved (scheduled for 2011). All the very light traffic was driving slow and nobody was throwing gravel. It had rained the night before and I had to later wash mud off the lower sections of the vette. BUT, it was well worth it!

That's another great mountain drive! We did that while at "Vettes on the Rockies" in 2008.
If you were going to pick a trio of great roads, take these 2 and throw in "The Tail of the Dragon" in Tennessee/North Carolina.
