Default 174 mph in a Convertible

At the Dade-Collier MileMarker One run today.

Here I am ready to go:

Interesting fact, at speed the aerodynamics of the mirrors actually flipped them back out to the normal position!!

With my 3.90 gears I was doing about 6400 rpm in 5th at 174 mph after one mile of acceleration, so there was not much more left. With another mile, I could probably just squeak past 180 mph at the rev limiter.

My first two runs, with my buddy Dan as co-pilot and ballast, I ran 169 mph and 171 mph. I ditched the ballast, but the day was heating up, over 80F, for the final run at 174.

Thanx to Roger and Jeremy at HorsePower Sales in Pompano Beach for putting together my LS 2 with stock bottom end, milled Livernois heads for 11.7 to one compression, and a little 224/228 0.595" camshaft, plus a FAST 92 and Kooks headers with cats, that runs with stock C6Z06 cars at this meet. I was running the original Goodyear tires with 11,000 miles on them, inflated to 38 psi cold, per the owners manual.

I thought it was only necessary to hit 88mph.

Totally pulled off the "doc look" from back to the future

Seriously, 174 is pretty impressive, but running with stock Z06s = they are sissies or horrible on the right pedal

IF you compare my "little" camshaft to the stock Z06 stick, mine is considerably more aggressive. And 11.7 to one compression is also significantly past Z06 levels. And my tune does not have to provide a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty .

The post title definitely caught my attention . . . if you look back through the "how fast have you gone in your C6" threads, you'll find my 2007 convertible at (you guessed it) 174 MPH. At least that's what the HUD was showing - and the timers in the track tower confirmed it. So yes, it's certainly do-able. My C6 has very similar mods to the Clevite Kid's. I also felt that there was a little bit left. Not much, but a little. I'm sure 180 can be done pretty easily. Rock on!

P.S. - My mirrors never moved an inch, which kind of surprised me - I expected them to do what yours did.

Lee,

What did your time slips say? My GPS was 4+ over their timing slips. I was the guy with the stock red C6 with the black wheels. Funny thing, I was first in line this morning outside the gate and a dog came up and pissed on both my front wheels. What a way to start. Glad to meet you.

Great run today Lee! It sure was a blast wasn't it? The vette guys that didn't go missed out. I had a great time with my buds Joe, Stevo, Lee and many others even if I didn't have my vette with me.

No. For the first time the organizers allowed "CERTAIN CONVERTIBLES" to run with out a roll bar. The "certain convertibles" were the C5 and C6 Corvettes with the super strong A-pillar/windshield header combination.

Everybody I talked to said their GPS was reading 4+ mph more than the time slips, me included. I suspect a calibration error with the time slips, not a dozen GPS units.
