If it doesnt work at all,,, are you sure that the fuses and circuit breakes are good/inst OR the seat is even connected?? Check the simple stuff first.

1badf350,

Did you ever resolve this issue. I had the same thing happen to me recently while sitting in my garage.

New Problem here on my 99. went to get in the car and the drivers seat was full forward. It moved forward on its own in the middle of the night. Anyway the seat will not move front or back but will move in all other directions.

The car sat for two days before I could get back to it.
by the time I did the battery was dead. I jumped the battery and still no movement front or back, but this time i noticed the front silver looking motor is super hot. Kind of like it is maybe energized to move full forward and will not listen to input from the switch. I disconnected it removed the seat and am trying to find some smart guy/gal to tell me what to do.

Any ideas?

Something is allowing the motor to run. Either a bad multifunction switch or the relay contacts that controls that function is remaining closed when the relay is deenergize:

Your going to need to do some troubleshooting. Its very common for the multifunction switch to fail to fully return to the CENTER off position.

Give that a shot first. Its easier then the rest of the troubleshooting.

I am very glad that I added a schematic to this post. Its an excellent post.

Here are a few other general things that I have learned about seats:

- The power plug can get easily damaged because it hangs down below the seat and contacts stuff that gets that gets under the seat. If the serial data wire gets shorted to other wires in the plug, the IPC will go crazy and the car can fail to start.

- If that plug gets wet, it will have symptoms the same as those listed above.

Thanks for the idea. My driver's seat switch is nuts... If I push it one way it may move the other... It even moves the telescoping wheel (the switch on the wheel is doing nothing)... Push up to move backward down to move the wheel... just all over the place.

Tomorrow I will pull the SCM out and take a look at it (I have the targa leak periodically as well)... I did not even think to pull it out and look.

I would do it this evening, but noooo... the girlfriend wants to go out instead of watching me work on my car again... I guess only on TV when the guy is 23 with a 6pack is hot, greasy and sweaty is hot... not on a 43 year old with a pony keg....

I'm subscribing to this thread.

I have a driver seat that won't move forward or backward, but will move up and down. I would like to pull out the module and check for corroded relays, as my drivers seat has gotten wet several times from a leaky targa top. My issue is that I'm tall, so the seat is all the way back. The seat frame rails are covering the rear bolts, so I can't figure out how to get the seat out of the car to get at the relays...

Try to move the seat to the fully raised position and see if you can attack the two rear nuts by inserting your arm under the seat. Use a box end wrench to remove the nuts.

This is crazy, the re-soldering actually worked (the original fix in first post from xboxexpert). All relays now are a clicking and seat is moving in all directions again. Thanks xbox!

The picture is slightly wrong in that the lowest row with the circles doesn't match the relays, but once you know that all three relays have the exact same connectors (3 at the top, two in the middle, and 3 at the bottom), you'll easily find the missing top row.

Just giving this thread a bump, I just did the re-solder trick on the SCM from the very first original post.. I have to admit I had my doubts, but it does indeed work!

Just a recap:

Drivers side power seat in my 03 Z06 would not move all the way forward without continuously holding the switch forward, then it moved haltingly little by little until I got it to the proper position. After resoldering the the points( the circuit board is not exactly like the original post, but easy enough to figure out which points to solder), the seat now moves like a champ. Also Im no expert solderer, so just about anyone can do it.

Thanks for the forum and the post!

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I removed the SCM from my 02 coupe today and touched up the solder joints. As the previous post stated, it looked a bit different than the OP's, but the fix is the same.

After 15 months, my driver's seat goes forward smoothly without needing to release and press the button several times!

Your box would look different since the OP did not have a SCM. He just had power seats (no Memory) so he had a seat relay box instead. This can be confirmed by the P/N in his picture. They are different.

OK... I tried this repair and nothing changed. Is there a different relay part number for a 2003 Anniversary edition (1SC)? The circuit board was way different, although the connections seem the same. I guessed at where to heat the solder... but maybe there is another problem.

At this point I am happy to just replace the relay (around $250 assuming it's the same part) but want to be sure I'm ordering the right part. I don't recall seeing a label, tag or part number on the relay.
