Default Disabling Onstar...

Anyone know how to "easily" disable Onstar? Is it as easy as removing a fuse?

If there is a fuse, yes, I'd say that'd do the trick.

Absent a fuse, though?
See that little black rectangular box at the right-center-top of the windshield? Find the wire feed to it, use a small wire clipper to *interrupt* communications. Permanently.

I guess I was hoping not to have to "permanently" clip something. My hope would be to simply do so sort of "easy" disconnect allowing me to reconnect at a future time should I so desire.

Relative to removing a fuse, I'd want to know what else, if anything, that I might be powering down with the fuse out. Anyone know for sure? Anyone know which fuse to remove?

As always, I appreciate your collective insight...

This subject has come up many times. If the search feature is working there will be tons of info on here about how to kill onstar the right way.

Actually I have done this and still find myself at a bit of loss; perhaps I just haven't found the "right" thread. I did find a lot of "I believe" information but wasn't able to find a definitive or concrete "how to." I'm hoping that it is in fact as simple as removing a fuse I just need to know which one and what else, if anything, I'd be powering down with the fuse removed; anyone know "for sure?"

Short answer:
* Remove fuse (in-car fuse panel)
* Unplug J1, J2, J3 and antenna connectors from onstar module under passenger seat
* Leave J4 connector on onstar module plugged in!

Long answer:
See post #18 here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...r-removal.html
And then start reading from post #130 onward in the thread referenced in the above post.
Note that the posts above are for a C6... where the onstar module is in the rear of the car; on a Z06 it's under the passenger seat.

I know you can't turn back the clock, but the best way to disable onstar is to not activate the thing in the first place. That's what I did. Did you know they can listen to you when you're driving?

Ahhhhh, l'il helpers of zerO's for his civilian army.

Y'know I realize there's huge potential for the abuse of OnStar, and if and/or when the day comes?
I *will* get out the wire clippers and pull the plug.

The dealer verifies that the Onstar system is working during the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).

Don't renew after the year is up. An aluminum turban helps too.

I thought after taking delivery of the car, the onstar is activated. Otherwise all the GM vehicles not yet sold on the lots would have working onstars. Nonetheless, mine has never worked and never been activated. Thanks dealer!

Do you put this around the onstar antenna?

Do you cut out holes for your eyes or do you just "feel" the road.

The cars come with the first year free.
It's activated in your name based on the Customer Delivery Record (CDR) that is generated by the dealer sales process.

Now I think you're makin fun of me. Of course I have to cut holes for my eyes. I do wrap 3 layers though, just in case. And I don't buy the 'cheap' stuff.
