Oil Capacity - 2000 C5
I recently completed an oil change on my C5 and noticed that the car only took about 5.25 quarts of oil to reach the top of the full mark on theoil dipstick. The owner's manual states that the car holds 6 quarts.
Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy? If so, what should be the proper fill quantity?
Thanks.

Should take close to 7 quarts. Was it fully drained? How did you check the oil level? Book says check level after the engine has been turned off for a couple of minutes. Good luck, hope this helps. :seeya

The service manual says 6 quarts, and 6.5 quarts with filter. Check and see if you've dented your oil pan. You didn't LOWER that puppy, did you??

When draining out the oil, The Rear of your car has to be higher then the Front for all of the oil to drain out. Most service station lifts are level and do not permit complete draining of the system. Quicky type lubes are not good because you drive over A pit and the car is level and the oil never drains out completly. The next time you get it done you should be there to make sure they jack up the rear A little while draining out the old Motor Oil.

Just had my 2000's oil and filter changed on a lift that tilted. They let the oil drain for about 15 minutes. When the car was leveled, nothing more came out. It took exactly 61/2 quarts of Mobil 1 to reach the full mark, exactly the same amount it has every oil change.

You might want to do a search on this subject it has been a debated issue. The 2001 apparently has a different dip stick and was moved from previous years. It will hold 7 quarts with filter if drained properly, but the owners manual says 6.5. GM has never resolved this issue to anyone satisfaction. :chevy

Re: Oil Capacity - 2000 C5 (TestAmenTC5)
Thanks to everyone that replied to my original posting on this topic. I did change the oil filter and have re-checked the oil level. The quantity stands at slightly more than 5 quarts.
The posting that discusses the necessity to raise the rear of the car makes the most sense to me, as I only jacked up the front end of the car. I evidently did not drain the entire crankcase.
Looks like I will have to re-do my oil change, however, this time armed with a bit more knowledge of the necessary procedures. THANKS!

Re: Oil Capacity - 2000 C5 (zoneblock)
Zoneblock, thanks for the "carrying the torch" on this one. GM will never resolve this issue of 6.5 vs 7.0 qts for the '01/'02 models. In the meantime, many owners just keep pouring in the 7.0 qts because they "believe" in that redesigned dipstick.
