Just a Q on the speedo. I think i can get my hands on a tremec T5 from a 2001 XR6 (Aussie car), but I think the speedo is electronic, can I convert it to a manual gear drive. I checked the shipping to Australia if I bought a box on ebay & it works out to about $550, so it looks like I will have to look locally.
Thanks Neil.
Thanks Neil.

Thanks 5speeds,
The box is from a 2001 Ford XR6, not sure if they use the same box as the Holden. I guess i will have to do a bit more research.
Neil.

Bernie,
I've read yours and the others' work so far - Great stuff! I'm at the point where I have my t-10 out of my '81 vette, I have the t5, the shifter plate, and I'm making the adapter plate tomorrow. I have some miscellaneous questions I'd like to ask you. There are always some loose ends to tie up!

Has anyone planned on building their T5 up with the heavyduty gearsets and mainshaft? G-Force makes a reinforced case, and they have a close ratio gearset that would maybe work well for road course usage

I had some email exchanges and a phone call with Bernie about 8 months ago. Have not seen him on here either. I've got all of my T5 stuff ready to go but need to finish my other projects first. I got a lightly used aftermarket T5 made for a mustang cobra, so it has beefed up internals. Can't wait to get it installed this year.

I completed this mod about 6 months ago and absolutely love it. The first time i shifted into
5th was pure joy. For those of you seriously considering the mod, be sure to check your driveline angles afterwards!!! You may have to lift the front of your differential a bit by cutting that bushing in half. Just what i experienced.

I just ran across this post. I have a 73 4speed car that I am doing a body off. I just happen to have a almost brand new world class T5 up in the attic that I ran in a 66 Shelby for only about 3000 miles. Has anybody done this mod using the original mechanical style clutch linkage (modified) instead of a hydraulic set up? The swap in the mustang used a similar plate that I have also. If it is the correct thickness I might be able to modify it to the chevy bellhouisng. I'm going up in the attic today and bring the stuff down.

One thing this thread from 2007 doesn't mention (props to Factor for searching!) is that there is another option besides making an adapter plate.
From 1980-1983 AMC/Jeep used a GM 151 4 cylinder with a Ford sourced transmission. That means a bellhousing exists with a Chevy engine bolt pattern and a Ford transmission pattern. Came on Concord, Eagle, Spirit, CJ7 & CJ5. It is part numbers 3251268 and 3251270.
There are 3 things to overcome though.
1) It is the small diameter bellhousing so you have to use the smaller 153 tooth flywheel
2) As intended for a 4 cylinder the bellhousing is 1/2" longer than the V8 so you will either need to use a Ford trans intended for a 4/v6 with the longer input shaft or use an long adapter pilot bushing with a V8 trans-commonly used for Chevy V8 Jeep swaps.
3) The bellhousing trans hole is not right @ 4.85" so depending on which trans you use you either need to make an adapter ring or mill the hole to fit (or possibly swap the input shaft collar from the AMC/Ford trans?).
