Default 1/4 mile time confusion...

Just last night, I was driving home from the clubs at about 3am in my 03 Zo6 that i bought about a month ago. Hungry for some taco bell...I'm in the left lane...and in the right lane theres a 2006 Subaru WRX STI slowing down, speeding up, slowing down, speeding up right beside me and would not let me turn into the right lane. I even had my turn signal on and everything but the little **** would not get out of my way and before i knew it...i missed the turn. At that point I was pissed.

I was in 3rd gear going about 12mph. Then, he takes off...while i was arguing with myself he had about a good 3 cars before i popped it into second gear. I didnt even want to downshift into 1st gear for a little WRX. I was gaining like mad...when i popped it into 3rd...i was walking him and had about 4-5 cars on him at around 90mph. I knew it would be no contest.

I get home and remembered that STIs are supposed to be pretty quick and on this website...i was shocked at what i saw.

http://www.albeedigital.com

2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.6 13.0
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 4.8 13.1
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.1 12.5
2003 Chevrolet Corvette (50th Anniversary) Manual, 4.9 13.4 (R&T Aug. '02)
2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 4.2 12.5 (chevrolet.com)
2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 3.5 11.5 (MT Oct '05)
2006 Subaru WRX STI 4.5 13.0

Ok does that sound right to you guys at all???? The 03' Zo6 is slower than the 01' C5 Coupe, 01' and 02' Zo6s, 05' C6, AND A 06' WRX?!?!!?!?!?! I mean what the hell??? Trust me...i'm still getting used to the car and i honestly know that my car could have owned that STI alot worse if a more experienced driver was behind it and if i would have downshifted to first. So...

I was just wondering what you guys thought about this....thanks guys for reading.

Somebody once said and I agree, the wrx is a low 13 second car or high 12 sec car because good traction, and the z06 is a low 12 second car due to lack of traction IBTL from a roll, well you know haha

I don't know about you but I wouldn't take my 03 Z ( I got mine last year) to the clubs @ 3am. They get vandalized too much around here. Maybe an old beater but not my Z. Also at that time of day (3am) you are an obvious target for the cops. I have no doubt you could smoke that rice wagon any time of the day. Be cool and think-------

The 03' times you have posted are for a normal C5 not a Z06. The 03' Z06 is the same times as an 02'. You walked him eaisly because the STI's can only pull low 13's high 12's because the awd can launch a 5k without spinning a tire. From a roll they are helpless.

The 03 times you posted are for a 50th anniversary coupe. Not a Z06.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that asSclown. I had a dilweed do that to me in a damn truck one night and I just braked hard and exited.

Stupid asSclowns!

I had someone do that with me on a 4 lane state road. They were driving a riced out 90-93 Acura Integra. They would ride dead even with me to every stop light, I'd look over at him, he'd speed up, slow down, speed up slow down... Every stop light, he'd rev his car up in neutral and put it on the rev limiter. I got sick of listening to him and dealing with him, so I put my window up, turned on the AC and put a good station on the radio and ignored him. This totally went up his ***, he looked pissed. He then peeled out and sped off. I let him go. There's too much trouble to be had if you get bagged by the Cops for street racing. Just ignore these punks, they get aggravated when you keep on going like they're not even there. IMO, that's a higher entertainment value.

A good plan indeed... however, I like to take it one step further and add to their frustration with a little verbal barishment. This is particularly effective if they have a female passenger. You simply and calmly engage them and say, "Look, even if there was some parallel universe where your Honda would outrun a Z06, I have NEVER in ALL MY LIFE heard a good looking chic say 'OH LOOK!!! IT's a HONDA'"...and then put your window up.

Hi sc0re2 -

What you are comparing is random runs by random magazine test drivers.

Who knows what experience level (or lack of) each driver had.

Your car IS faster and quicker than any stock WRX.

The question is, are YOU?

best regards -

I'm surprised this thread is still open.
Also, I don't know that I'd be downshifting @ 12mph into 1st gear!!!
It wasn't necessary anyway.

I'v got an 05 Subaru Legacy GT, same motor as an STi, but with a smaller turbo. Mine is modified to near stock STi output.
In an AWD car you must abuse the clutch something terrible to get those kind of numbers, I'v done it a couple of times and you really got to love the smell of fryed clutch.
Trust me, there is simply no comparison to the perfomance of a c5 z.
However the Subaru forums are riff with wet dreams of smoking the big v8's.

I agree. I have an '04 STi and it is not NEARLY as fast as the Z from a roll or otherwise. Your observation is not surprising at all.

Of course not; it has 100 less HP and weighs more. No way, no how
could an STi beat a Z06 unless you're racing in the rain. The
STi's AWD is an advantage on wet pavement, but who cares?

First off, you cannot compare Magazine statistics across different magazines, since each magizine has its own testing procedures.
Its best to compare stats where the cars were compared in a head to head test..
But if you can't do that, you have to at least compre stats from within the same brand magazine..

Car and Driver got 12.4@116 out of the 2002 ZO6.
"In the quarter-mile there's an even bigger difference. The new car did it in 12.4 seconds at 116 mph, whereas the 385-hp car needed 12.7 seconds to hit 113 mph. For an only five-percent increase in power, the new Z06 certainly extracts quite a bit. For the record, both cars we're comparing here were tested by the same driver using the same test equipment. "
Here is the link to the test.
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1

By comparison Car and driver got 13.4@102 out of the 05 STI

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...ans-page4.html

An entire second in the 1/4 is an eternity. Whats even more telling is the differnce in mph.. THE STI has the advantage of AWD, which is reflected in the fact that it turns in a decent 1/4 mile ET, for only going 102 mph.. But if these cars were to run from say 30mph-100mph, the STI would be blown AWAY!

Of course, many STI's you come across will be modded. But the difference between a stock STI and a stock C5 ZO6 is so great, that the STI has to have plenty of mods to keep up with a stock C5 ZO6.

Have fun and play nice with those little 4cyl imports..
