Hey guys ive been restoring a 79 L-48 and i was trying to see if there was any way i could put in a cd player because it still has the stock 8 track player in it. I saw that you can buy a new cd bezel on Ecklers but i was just wondering if there was any other cheaper way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The cheaper way is to remove your present bezel and carefully cut it yourself. I did that in the '78 I owned and it worked fine.

Get the Dremel tool out and take your time. The ones with the CD bezel pre cut are a lot more expensive (I bought one, my old one was cracked and like you I optioned for a CD player) when it came in it looked like all they did was cut it out with Dremel also....... Could have save 60 bucks and did it myself.......

I cheated and bought a dash kit that already had an opening for the cd player as a opposed to a stock radio so I had a nice template to cut with the dremel. I even had to open it up a little bit more as the opening still wasn't big enough.

Yeah I think i'm just gonna try and cut the opening. Do you know what i should use to cut it, and how big the cutout should to be?

Get the CD player first. Use the DIN bracket for your template. I used a cut-off wheel on my dremel - literally gives the hot knife/warm butter feel. Be careful though, if you slip it makes a gash where you don't want one. I did an outline with the wheel & that gave me a track for holding steady when doing the final cut out.

that's why i had to make the opening larger...you have to use the metal sleeve that the cd player sits in as the decider when making the opening. I used a cut off wheel and then went back with a bit that was like rolled sand paper to clean up the edges...worked like butta!

it also helps to cut the whole slightly smaller then you want, and then test fit and hand file to the correct size. make it too big, and your screwed. make it too small, and you can slowly open it up to the correct size.

Good tip on the template and that's also why I bought a new repro bezel to cut up from Ebay. Cheaper than pre-cut and safer than cutting the original.

Hey guys, I was looking at putting in a cd player with an AUX port. I've put a cd player in my 93 Corolla and cut it out like you guys are talking about, but my question is will you need a new harness for it?
