I think the very first Corvette I ever drove was my stepfather's red '75 during the early mid '80s.
Not only was it even more choked off with emissions crap than your '73 was but it wasn't even an L82 on top of that (it was an L48 automatic). Slow yes, but as a kid in high school, well, it was still a Corvette.

Nothing like pulling up to a light in your 5.0 and seeing 4 other mustangs which happen to be driven by high school girls and are v6s....
LOL, too funny. You know this is exactly how z06 and even zr1 guys view us right. "nothing like hauling *** through some curves and coming up to a light to see 3 men in their 60s all driving base vettes"
just saying, it works both ways

Good point but you might be overlooking one small item...even that 'base Vette' is still brutally fast with stellar handling/braking.
A stock base Mustang V6 (be it driven by high school girls, a 25 year old guy or a man in his 60s ), not so much LOL.
But I see your point, that biased stereotypes, labels and vehicle typecasting comes in all shapes and sizes.

That "brutally fast" vette you are talking about can be applied to even a V6 mustang, which has been proven to hit the 13s many times. And dont say "that isnt fast" because just a few years ago, a base ls1 vette only did 13's.

All im saying is any young ditsy chick or old granny would think the same about their V6 mustang. We are all juts trying to look good and have a nice ride before we take "The Big Ride"

Well, to be fair, a V6 Mustang now is capable of running HIGH 13s where an LS1 was capable of running HIGH 12s and regularly ran 13.0-13.1

A full second difference is quite a bit.

At the same time, that full second difference does separate the Z06 from the base model C6 and I completely agree that anyone who pulls up in a Z06 or ZR1 next to a regular C6 certainly does not view it as being in the same realm of performance.

If your ride has a back seat, then its not a sports car. Plain and simple! Theres a reason the corvette was voted sports car of the decade. "based on its affordable cost and top-end, super-car performance and style"

Let's face it. The 'Vette... gets 'em wet!

LOL

Its all relevant!!!!! Just because one was low 13's and one is high 13's does not mean 18 year old britney and 55 year old mrs. anderson would be able to know the difference. SPEED IS RELEVANT!!!! I know guys who think their 5.3 or 5.7 trucks are amazingly fast, yet they are both in the low 15's! All im saying is people view all vettes as that, a Vett! I owned an 03 and an 04 cobra, which is not in the same league as a v6 mustang but yet all people knew was I had "a mustang" Only real enthusiasts knew what i owned!!

exactly my point. Car enthusiasts know the difference. but 90% of the population dont.

a 5.0 in the middle of 19 other mustangs = 20 mustangs

a z06 in the middle of 9 other vettes = 10 vettes!!!! :t oetap:

True, but this usually gets peoples attention, regardless.

The new 5.0's are no joke. We hope to get my buddies car to run 11.40's without headers, full weight(minus spare), and factory rear with optional gearing.

Any v8 mustang with chambered mufflers and no cats gets peoples attention also, does that make it any more different than the other thousands of mustangs in that area? Nope, which happens to be my point. All it would be to people is a loud MUSTANG, like that cammed z06 (sounds sweet btw) to people its a loud CORVETTE

cheers mate, we can go back and forth with this, at the end, you and I both know the difference, most of the US population wont....

When Mickey Thompson comes out with the 19 inch dr to fit the stock rim, I think times will drop 4-5 tenths. Keep in mind the Mustang has a rear geared toward drag racing. I am adding heads and cam to my LS2 and I just feel modifications beyond bolt ons, i.e headers, exhaust, cai and tune will limit the 5.0, unless you bolt on a blower. When I say limit, I am referring to power gained through heads, cam, etc. N/A. I know there will be cams and heads available for this car, but its going to be steep. Yes Vet parts can be expensive, But compared to other cars it competes with, I find the prices reasonable. I know the 11 Stang is nice, but if I wanted to be king, I would just buy a used GT500 for the same price, pully it and throw some slicks on the car and run low 11s all day @120-125. I just love the Vett, targa top etc. just my two cents
this^^. i had an 2001 cobra that i bought cams for. $1400 just for all 4 cams , and that doesn`t include labor.

Default Chevrolet needs to step up.

Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlhtS...layer_embedded

Chevy needs to offer something similar to their consumers. Imagine a Vette prepped Drag Pack car from the factory. If Chevy really wanted to stick it to the competetion, make it affordable and less than or equivalent to the base model C6. Due to the fact that all the luxuries such as a/c, stereo, power seats, hud, dual gas tanks, and other items that jack up the price of the car would be removed and in sense would make the car affordable. Or make a legal street version and offer it at a price equivalent to the Grand sport. Either way, if offered, don't let the dealerships rob the consumer and the Chevrolet Drag Pack cars would own the strip!

Just my .02
