Sure the converter is just to boost you launch from a stationary start. It allows the engine more RPMs before loading the drive line.
Reading about converters there is several things that determine Stall. With a cam it's the three usual basic things . Air in and out , Fuel . Air in is filter and housing getting the most you can get and out is headers and free flowing exhaust , Fuel is enough for the job.
Make sure your valve springs are up to snuff or valves will bounce around and cause problems !

Larry, you crack me up. The first time i ever read a posts from you, i got a kick outta the way you word things. Your cars sound mean!, & yes it's all alot of fun. I'm obsessed with Corvette's. I go to bed only after looking for hours at things I want to do, to improve, lol.

I do drive my car a lot when its nice, and decided to go to 3.54's from 2.73's. I'm not wanting to nuke my gas mileage, but i do want more HP. U have to pay to play i know this. I'm going to order my 219 cam asap. They recommend a 2600-2800 stall. So gettin a lower stall will help gas mileage compared to say a 3,000. Can I run the cam with my stock converter? Smaller converter just makes u slower in the quarter? But makes it eazier to drive on highway & saves more gas?

Yep ! It's toast ! 4 L 60 E is not a HD peice ! My advice is save up and overbuild. Thats cause of future mods in mind and it's more expensive and a pain to have to fix again later .
You start with headers and exhaust and Air intake ! Quick cheap easy HP .
If you drive allot and see little track time keep a stall mild . A 3,000 is almost uncomfortable to drive and kills gas mileage.
Next is cam and kit , heads, ported or aftermarket. Springs and rockers are important with a Hot Cam . Roller rockers guide plates and Studs w/gurdiles all allow more safe RPMs where a small block gets its power and are not too expensive !
With gas going north you need a DD or a gas station ! I'm looking for a 4 banger for a DD cause my truck and the Vette use too much fuel and I am always running someone around. Of course if you pick up much with the cam then you need to upgrade your fuel delivery next and that leads to reprogramming eng management computer.
I love the vette it's the ultimate ride no doubt but the track car is made for abuse .
The Vette goes to the track or to a car show or Rosa's on Wed with all the other Vettes for a BS session and mini car show .
I'd hate to do a five ft. high wheelie in the Vette like I did the first time I drove that Monte Carlo ! Holy Cow that was fun. Might have gone on the back bumper if I hadn't let off ! Left on foot brake and second gear instead of Trans brake and first !
I told my son I was going to put a Fiberglass nose on it and get rid of 50 lbs of bumper and bumper shocks and metal and he commented I better invest in Wheelie Bars ! LOL It's all fun !

When I upgrade cam and heads, should i get a better converter? I'm wanting to get 3.07's next. Then cam and heads. Probably will need to get a better converter eh?
