Sounds like the volume control or the wires going to it are the problem. It will have to come out and go on the bench to find the problem.

Brake line replacement

I'm replacing all my brake lines and have a pre-bent set and am having a problem getting the front cross over line in place. Anybody have any advice on getting it done? It's a 65 roadster

You could get out the camcorder (maybe a phone) and make a video of the valve action in the shutter mode (that's the mode that stops baseballs in flight) you might see something in frame by frame...
