I think the T5 is fine behind a mostly stock 327 or 350 as long as they are not worked really hard. Even the 302 in the Mustangs is enough to break the T5 trannys.

It sounds to me like you know the cam is more than you want to run. Before making a choice I would pull the intake manifold. It will not surprise me if that engine already has a roller Lifter set up....
