Can you please take a pic of the shock that broke and how it's mounted to the frame? They may help me understand why the shock broke.

I would probably recommend going with Hyperco 400# springs up front 300-350# springs in the rear. We use QA1's. I think you may want to consider going with a double adjustable shock as well so you can control rebound and compression seperately. On a single adj shock, it will adjust both at the same time. With doubles we can dial it in much better.

You mentioned huge sway bars. What are the bar sizes?

I'm hoping you can help me out. I've got a 64 Vette with Jaimison Corvettes tube frame with a C-4 setup. When I purchased the frame 4- 5 years ago they gave me a choice of two coilover setups, one for autocross, and one for touring. Since I actually liked the compliance of the original progressive springs on the car for the street - soaked up the bumps and put less twist on my conv frame -(fronts cut one coil) with huge sway bars, and because the touring ones were cheaper, my budget dictated the touring ones. Based on thier construction and bushings color, they appear to me to be Carrera's "street rod" coilovers (chrome) - the mounting bushings were so soft, they compressed to almost nothing, with the shock bodys hitting the mounts. I have no info on the rates, and am trying to get that from Jamison. They were a bit too soft, and did not seem to have nearly enough control for my heavy wheels (15x10 torque thrusts widened to 12" in the rear and 11' up front with street radials 295/50's and 275/50's), so having something adjustable I can play with rates on is what I think I will need.

I put up with this setup since getting the car on the road for the first time last May, and had planned on getting a set of QA-1's eventually. Well, the other day, one of my rear shocks broke - not sure if an "axle wrap" type situation on the wheel hub put strain on the shock?? maybe since the c4 trailing arms have old orig stock rubber bushings?? - I haven't gotten under the car yet - just limped home with a block of wood the other night. I have no rate information from Jaimison on what I have currently, so I was hoping you might have recommendations on what to go with. The car weighs in at 2,900lbs no driver, and 3097 with me in it, with rear being 30lbs more than front (I never got out of car while on scales). I drive the car very hard, but don't quite want autocross stiffness because of all the fast driving I do on the street - need a little more compliance than that since it is a convertible. I don't need a custom kit since the frame is all setup for coilovers, just front and rear adjustable rate coilovers. What would you recommend on manufacturer and rates, from what you carry? Thanks for your time.
