    Joe:
I have a 65 that I am cloning or shall we say tribute. I started out buying Z16 parts several years ago and have bid on several restorable Z16s. After several years i made a decision to give up on a real Z and take my nice 327 power window / tilt wheel/ac car and do late model running gear with Z16 trim. I do believe I have every option offered for a 65 Chevelle.I am hoping to get rolling on the car this spring. i have a convertible frame almost ready for the powder coater. How did you come about finding me? Feel free to email me anytime

Larry, I noticed you have a thing for Z16's. A bit of trivia. In 1964 I purchased a new '64 Chevelle Malibu SS hardtop, 327, 4 speed, etc. About 6-7 months later I wrecked it, bending the frame. After it was repaired,(Jan 1965) I had read about the New "mystery" engine in the hot rod magazines, and asked the Chevy dealer about it. He didn't know much about it. He said it was only going to be available in the full size Chevy and the Vette. I ordered an Impala with the 396. 4-speed, etc. It showed up in May. About a month later(I think) one of the guys in my squadron, mentioned that the Chevy dealer had a new Chevelle in the showroom with the 396. Wnet down after work and, sure enough, there sat a red with black vinyl top 396 Malibu SS. At first, I was pissed. Here I had just purchased a new car and then one that I really wanted becomes available(even though I had heard nothing about it). But, when I saw the price, I calmed down. No way could I have afforded it. It was decked out out. I could buy a new Vette way cheaper. A

Anyway, at the time, it was not known that the car(didn't even know it was called a Z-16) was going to be limited to 201 cars. I never did see the car on the street.

I was stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. I don't remember the dealer's name, even though it was the dealer where I purchased my '64. I purchased the '65 Impala form the other, much larger, dealer in Wichita, Quality Chevrolet.

That same summer, I was getting gas and a red 396, side exhaust, Vette roadster pulled into the gas station. I started talking to the guy about his Vette. He was in his '50's, was a traveling salesman and the Vette was his only car. He made sales calls with it.
