Hi,
I have read your posts regarding upgrading the C5 Bose stock stereo system in order to improve quality, and I was hoping that you could prescribe me a simple DIY upgrade to improve upon the lack of quality sound in my '97 coupe stock system?
Since I am not an audiphile and am only looking for a reasonably priced solution without tons of thumping bass or adding a subwoofer in the back, I am interested in starting off initially with JUST swapping speaker combos first, and if this doesn't improve the sound quality significantly over stock, then I would next seek either an aftermarket head unit and/or amp.
After reading one of your posts, I have decided to follow your guidance and purchase Polk Audio DB351’s 3.5” for the front doors and DB651 6.5” for the rear / midpost, but I could not find whether or not you still maintained or discarded / disconnected the front 8” subs and/or amps driving them?
1. FRONT SPEAKERS: Can I JUST swap the 3.5" fronts with aftermarket 3.5", BUT KEEP the 8" front subs and stock amps OR should I remove the front 8" subs if using new aftermarket 3.5"? Which would produce the best quality sound while maintaining as much stock as possible?
2. REAR SPEAKERS: Based on what you recommend for the fronts, what would you suggest for the rears? Can I just replace with the aftermarket DB651’s and be done with the back?
I realize that you and others have posted to this point many times, however, in the interest of time and sanity, I am focusing on you directly since I was impressed with your clear writing detail.
Thanx!
John
