Insurance piracy
Holy cow, USAA just went to ludicrous mode with my premium update. Time to jump ship or is USAA the most competitive out there? I was about to get a homeowners policy with them but they were no longer competitive there anymore.

Our insurance for autos, home, and umbrella has gone up more than 25% in both of the last two years. I shopped it last year and did not find enough of a savings to justify a switch. I blame Biden, the weather, and GM for sharing my driving data with Lexis/Nexis, but mostly Biden.

I have Farmers and my yearly cost for 3 vehicles went up nearly $1000.
I have to blame someone, so I pick Biden. My choice, I could be wrong.
I am getting worried if my retirement will how out.
Best wishes to all.

Nothing surprising - many members have reported their insurance rates have jumped significantly in the last year. Mine is not due until August so around the end of June, first of July I'll find out how mine will be.

Thankfully, at the end of the day, I believe most everyone on this site can afford to absorb these increases (as outrageous as they are). I worry about those who are just barely making it now. I have many close friends and relatives who live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford what they are paying now. I'm not getting political, but I must look at the people in charge and openly wonder what the hell they are thinking?
These are scary times indeed....

We can complain all we want, but due to inflation all parts prices are rising and with that the companies have to cover repairs. When you shut down a nations businesses for a time, you get supply chain shortages, thus triggering inflation. Couple that with rising oil prices by limiting supply to promote EVs, and you get more inflation. Everything shipped typically does by truck. When you demand $15+ minimum wages that forces prices up as well. All basic economics. Remember these things in November.

Hey all, trying to keep this out of politics. Mainly I'm wondering if anyone knows which insurance is the most competitive right now. I would love to know why but it seems we all are seeing the hit. My premium literally doubled.

You all claim to believe in free enterprise and capitalism. Well, this is capitalism at work. Profit isn't just the number one goal, it's the only goal. Cars are much more expensive. Parts are much more expensive. (Remember when you could buy a sealed beam headlight for $5? And change it in 10 minutes with a screwdriver? The headlight on a C8 costs well over $1,000, and requires taking the entire front bumper off to replace.
Factor in climate change causing more frequent and stronger hurricanes and tornadoes and flooding in some places, draught induced forest fires in others, and the number and cost of claims is skyrocketing. In the states most affect by climate change insurance companies aren't raising prices, they're refusing to write policies. Be glad you can get insurance.

My State Farm policy "only" went up 15%, most years it goes down because the vehicle is worth less.

I don't know if you are aware of it but there is a class action lawsuit against GM & Onstar for sharing drivers' information to insurance companies which allows them to increase prices. I got an e mail from a law firm asking me for info on my vehicles.

And then shop around every few years. They love to raise rates on long time customers, because those customers are unlikely to leave.

I think there are way too many variables to say which is best. I have been with StateFarm for decades, every time someone talks about insurance(Car, motorcycle and snowmobile forums) I realize how good I've got it. I have had State Farm insurance for 40 years and the same agent for 30. I get quotes from other companies every now and then, nobody can match rates for ME, your results will differ.

Never said a word of who to vote for, just to take what is being griped about, understand it, and vote accordingly......not making it political if no mention of who to vote for, just understand the factors of inflation...many dont. Rising prices affect every business sector! Enough said..

Like you, my USAA is through the roof for no fault of my own. I got a few other estimates and they were close to USAA or way more.
Part of why I stay is, is I need them, I know what to expect. Some of these other "cheap" guys are going to fight you all the way if you have an accident.

The rapid rise of inflation was a direct affect of the covid pandemic(low supply high demand), not a US political issue, it's an issue all over the planet. Insurance premiums have been affected by ultra high claims from natural disasters the past decade.
