Default What did I do NOW??? Please Help.....Leaking water?

So I used my A/c for the first time in a while today, and i also had the car in the air.

I got home and popped the hood (always do this to help extract heat from the engine bay after a long drive) and I noticed alot of condensation on a metal pipe leading towards the fire wall, and also heard dripping on the header.

I got under the car and a pipe was "misting" and dripping water fairly rapidly. This was after I shut the car off, but its possible it was happening while driving.

It appears to have subsided, but the "misting" seemed odd, almost like one of the pipes has a small crack in it....

If this is normal, ok....but if not....
Question is.....if I dont use the A/C can I drive the car??? It appears to be 100% water.

I have also heard a sound as if water is being dripped onto a sizzling hot pan after shutting off the car. I haven't yet investigated this issue and found an answer as to whether this is normal, so I will also be following this thread.

Most likely, just condensation. Mine dose it every time it's hot outside and the AC comes on. No problems yet.

It will do that and if it's humid outside, it will be worse then normal.

That's normal. I'm surprised no one else noticed this on their car. They all do it. I feel it's a poor design and should be draining away from the exhaust but GM knows better.

Normal on any vehicle with ac. When the ac is in use the evaporator core gets very cold....... 32-34 F when this happens the air being pushed through it has moisture in it, it collects on the evaporator and turns to ice or frost...... then when vehicle is shut off the refrigerant stops circulating and the evaporator warms up..... so just like the outside of your frosted beer mug it starts to melt..... this water ends up in the bottom of the heater box and by design is directed to the drain.... out it comes and drips down from the drain tube to the ground or header etc. the more humidity in the air, the more pronounced this will be. the condensation on the 2 lines and accumulator is normal as well.

I live in North Texas where it's usual for high humidity conditions. My 2010 Z06 does this dam near every time i park it after having driven it with A/C on. There will also be a puddy of water underneath where it's parked. The same thing will happen w/my Yukon.

The sizzling you hear is NORMAL too. It's the condensation off the cold side of A/C hose (humidity condensating on the cold hose) collecting and dripping down onto the hot exhaust pipes.

I've been hearing the sizzle ever since I brought my 'Z home new last year.

Normal, all cars with a/c do this. does not damage anything and is very brief after shutoff.

i usually turn the a/c off about a mile or so from shutoff so its done by the time i park it. anyway, no problems, all a/c cars do this.

Yep normal here too! I've owned my Z for almost a month and a half now and was very concerned the first time I heard the "tssssss" "tsssssss" sound. Then I discovered it was just condensation from the air conditioner...

Simple terms....

There is NOTHING WRONG with your cars a/c system. It's a refrigerated system. It chills the air from either inside the cabin or it pulls outside air in and cools it before it enters the cabin. This depends on how you have it set. Recirculate is cooled air from the cabin, cooled and back into cabin. The yellow light on the control unit will light when set this way. Sometimes if it's very hot outside/inside the car, it will stay on recirculate (yellow light) unitil the cabin cools down.

The mositure in the air (humidity) chills and collects inside a close unit that has coils and it pulls the hot/humid air across it, where it collects moisture from the air and drips down onto a pan basically and drains out of the unit/car. Also, the cold line from compressor running to this 'air cooler unit' will collect moisture and it will drip down onto exhaust sometimes. There is NOTHING WRONG with your a/c unit or Z06..
