Default 2005 auto transmission problem

Ive just bought a 2005 covertible and it just completely dropped 3rd gear. It shifts fine from first to second, but as soon as it trys to shift to 3rd it does nothing but finally shifts to 4th and all is fine after that. could this be the 3-4 servo out? or am I lookig at another complete rebuild? any help would be great. If I need a trans, what should I get? new to vettes but wanted one for 10 years. Thanks,

More info would be nice. Is it throwing a code? Is the car stock?

It could just be the 3rd/4th gear solenoid. If it fails electronically it should set off a fault. However if it fails mechanically it may not. If I remember right. I believe if it is stuck open it won't allow 3rd gear but may allow 4th gear like yours is doing.

Hello trplblk, weird coincidence, I have the EXACT same problem on my 2005 coupe, and it started on 29/6/2012 (10 days ago). I've had mine for 4 months, and only 30k miles on it. Did you solve your problem yet? Detailed feedback greatly appreciated, as I risk spending 6400$ on a new transmission next week.

Hello cartwheel, excuse my ignorance in car mechanics, where exactly is the solenoid located? Can it be replaced?
I wish I could prepare a video but the car's already in the shop. Basically the automatic transmission shifts normally from 1st to 2nd gear, then at about 28mph the gearbox "slips" completely, if I step more on the gas paddle, RPM rises but the gear seems disengaged, though the car somehow gains speed very very slowly, eventually it abruptly moves into 4th gear when speed is close to 43mph I believe.

Unfortunately my friend, I'm in Lebanon (Middle East), no pro garages here, not even the sole dealer garage who advised me to install a brand new transmission.
Have a look at this thread, it could be relevant to our problem:

Default Trans

Now it's gone completely. Going
To load it on a truck today and it went out cpletely without any warning. I don't get it. 15 mph. Then Rpms started to rise then car slowed to a halt and would not move in any gear. Does this sound like clogging screens or what. Gm will get it next week when I have time but I'd like to
See if anyone has other ideas first.

My car's currently in the garage undergoing a transmission rebuild, but only for 3rd gear. The mechanic also ordered a "mod package" for the 3rd gear, which will eradicate this issue and prevent it from happening again. Apparently, the 2005 4-speed transmission suffers from a lot of strain and overheating, this might be why it was replaced with a 6-speed the following year.
