Should i buy a 2013 ZR1 or wait for C7?

I know its a dumb question but I'm only 20 years old and debating on if i should buy a new zr1 or wait for the c7? Ive had a 2001 corvette c5(i bought used) and 2009 corvette(i bought new) and put a A&A kit on it making 600rwhp (built by Wongs performance) and i have drove the new ZR1 which i liked a lot more then any of my other corvettes. :willy:

ufaj26 03-16-2012 05:06 PM

Personally, I'm not good at waiting.

kingofbikes 03-16-2012 05:28 PM

My plan was to wait for the new c7, yet the math is important to me, with so many great low mile zr1's why not pick one up and be in a position to trade up later and save $30-$40K
After my first ride today in my zr1, I have lost my interest in the c7
ps...

LloydP 03-16-2012 05:34 PM

Your choice but it is likely that the first year will be base model only and you will be able to buy one for only 30k over list.

The higher performance models will likely come along a year or two later.

LS1LT1 03-16-2012 05:43 PM

C6 ZR1 now. :yesnod:

:iagree: It will be awhile before a C7 ZR1 is introduced - if ever.

RedZ4me 03-16-2012 05:46 PM

ZR1.....20 years old?? Wow!, I want in whatever you're doing legal or not :)

:iagree:

Personally, I'd go for the ZR1. From what I hear it's a beastly car, and you never know if the C7 is to your liking. Think of all the time you could've spent driving the ZR1, but instead wasted by waiting for something you didn't like! :willy:

I agree with KingofBikes..Why wait buy a great used ZR1 now and by time the new if they even make one ZR1 comes out you'll have a good trade in car and if they don't make the new ZR1 people will be crying for one...This HP surge thats going on right now with all brands of cars will soon come to an end...It did before and it will again...640 hp Vette's won't be around much longer IMO.

Freaked Ls3 03-16-2012 07:58 PM

Well i made some phone calls today and they said that they stopped taking orders on zr1??????

ufaj26 03-16-2012 08:13 PM

You can't order a 2013 yet. There are plenty of 2012's on the ground if you want one of those.

Yeah because there are a lot of them sitting unsold!

OnPoint 03-16-2012 10:54 PM

Like others have noted, no certain there even will be a C7 ZR1, or another vette w/ more hp/better performance. The impending CO2 limits and CAFE regs are going to take a bite out of the fun we've been having the last few years.

And if the C7 has that huge Camaro-esque butt like the recent depictions show, I'm not sure I'd want one anyway.

Bruce Bosch 03-17-2012 12:03 AM

I went through the same analysis last month for about a week. Then I purchased a new 2012 ZR1 and drove it back from Detroit to Portland Oregon. After 10 days and 4100 miles I can say it was the right decision. Just the fun you will have driving the ZR1 now until the 2013 (if they produce a ZR1 in 2013) is worth it. The current ZR1 is by far the best Corvette that has ever been made IMHO. Go for it.

GMuffley 03-17-2012 12:33 AM

Factor in the lost opportunity of driving a ZR1 for two years while you wait for the C7.

Joezone914 03-17-2012 02:02 AM

I would get the ZR1. The C7 will not introduce a Z06 or ZR1 type car first year out and with cafe requirements the ZR1 type of power might not be available for a long time or ever possibly. That said, I hope that by lowering weight that eventually there will be a C7 with similar power to weight ratio of the ZR1 with a N/A 5.5 liter pushing 475+hp.

vara 03-17-2012 07:21 AM

Pull the trigger!

MGP1 03-17-2012 07:28 AM

Geez...Wish I had to make this choice! I would have mucho miles on my new ZR1 by now-------------------------------:steering:

b4i4getit 03-17-2012 07:52 AM

I may be in the minority but I would either wait for the C7 or pick up a ZR1 that is a couple of years old. You will save a lot of money on a used car. These cars will not appreciate in value. Put the savings towards the C7 or the gas you will need to keep it going.

Kimera 03-17-2012 09:08 AM

Silly choice. The C7 base will never be as good (I presume) as a ZR1 go with the oldest c6 ZR1 you can find save a **** ton of money. (I dont get why people buy cars new) then destroy all of the guys who bought c7's on the road and enjoy one of two american exotics

topshotZR1 03-17-2012 10:44 AM

Buy the used, drive it for two years, if you like the C7 sell it and buy the C7 two years from now... this way you will have two years of enjoyment while you wait......

09Z06pj 03-17-2012 12:01 PM

As others have said, there's no guarantee if/when there will be a C7 ZR1. Even if there is, we don't know if it will be anywhere near what the C6 ZR1 is, performance-wise. Why wait and miss out on the experience now?:confused2:

Personally, I don't know of anything GM might do with a C7 ZR1 that could make me not want my ZR1. You have to drive one to know what I mean.

mikelj 03-17-2012 01:21 PM

Considering how few 2012s were made, and so many still waiting for an owner, will they even build a 2013 ZR1?

prostreet_632 03-17-2012 01:59 PM

I guess the real ? is like everyone else says is 20 yrs old and want to dump 110k+ for a car.

Freaked Ls3 03-17-2012 02:35 PM

Well I'm suppose to hear back from the dealer on Monday. I'm going to make a thread in for sale for WTB new zr1 and see which dealer can get me the best price possible.

What he said. You're looking at a minimum of 3-4 years before we see a C7 with ZR1 performance on the showroom floor.

Andrew6@TheDoubleAA 03-17-2012 04:43 PM

buy one now as the world is suppose to end in December.

Hello, 1975??

bearcatt 03-17-2012 05:35 PM

There are so many great deals on 2011 and 2012 ZR1s right now, you might as well pick one up and enjoy life. :)

Plus the 2014s will be out eventually.

I would rather buy a 2015 anyways to let GM get the bugs out of the 2014s.

camirocz 03-17-2012 05:56 PM

I frankly dont think that a 20 yr old who can supposedly afford a zr1, is worried about saving money for gaz!

Gary '09 C6 03-17-2012 07:28 PM

there are new unsold 2012s available, and used ZR1s w/low miles can also be found...
why wait for a C7 version that has too many unknowns (looks, power, availability ?)

As nice as possible, how the f does a 20 year old afford a new ZR1?

viperZ06 03-17-2012 09:57 PM

I never buy a first year anything. They always make improvements.

Good question...it took me 48 years to do it, and I feel very blessed at that.

Some may never have the opportunity, but I guess this all belongs on another thread...

Good luck to you - 3 Jobs your social life is nil huh?

palindrome1H 03-19-2012 11:22 AM

I'd get the 13 zr1. I've always had the rule to never buy the first year production run of any car. Always wait at least a year to let them work the kinks out. If you waited you would probably have to wait until 2015!

QUIKAG 03-20-2012 03:50 PM

I'm driving the C6 ZR1 until the C7 ZR1 comes out.

Ahmer 12-04-2013 11:08 PM

I agree. Bought my first '05 at 27. I thought I was young. Now waiting patiently for a z07 @ 33.

I ended buying a 2009 ZR1 last month that was bought new with 22 miles on 10-15-2010;
Car still like new with 2245 miles.
Instead of a C-7. Reason being I am 50k off sticker with the buy at 69,500. I feel it is not going to drop as fast as the new C-7 will once they are plentiful which the big numbers made they will be sitting on the lots. Plus the C-7 will made for at least 6-7 years.

The new Z06 will be 100k plus.
I pretty those that think less are wrong.
With the premium C-7 at 85k
They have to break 100k like the ZR1 did with the ls-9. Plus those are
1 full year away or more. Then the MSRP "adjustment" 10 plus k will stay on these esp early sales.
In your case that new 13 will drop in your hands and in 2-3 years of ownership will cost a bundle of lost value. Lose a lot less on a low mile used Garage queen!
Buy a low mile car like I did instead. Plus I'm paying cash. Loan costs are high. Just my opinion!
