Default C5 Caliper Difference - Z06, Z51, & Stock

Ok, so I've searched the 'forum(s)' for this but do not find what I'm looking for...

I'm ready for new brakes on my pretty-much stock '03 Anniversary Coupe. Don't need anything fancy (I was doing the C6 Z06 package but that's another story - 'grrrr'), but do want to go larger than stock, drilled, slotted, etc.

So...what is the difference in the Calipers between the C5 stock, Z51, and Z06 cars?

I found the rotor differences and heard there are differences in the calipers:
- the size of the caliper pistons
- the design of the overall caliper (the Z06 has more strength in the caliper backbone)

Again, I have the stock setup and am considering the larger Z06 rotors and may go to the heavier duty caliper if I can learn what the specific difference is. So, any help is appreciated!

Also, if someone knows the GM part numbers for the calipers...that'll be cool too!

Thanks All!

Ive actually always heard that all C5's have the same brakes. The Z06 just got red paint. I know the C6 Z06 brakes are a sought after upgrade. But you need at least 18" rims up front.

I too am pretty sure that all C5's had the same brakes except for the power coat on the ZO6's...

Also, someone on here said that the C6 ZO6 brakes will fit under +02 ZO6 wheels. I would think the clearance would be so close that it would scare me to attempt it...sigh...off to look for rear Z16 wheels for the front...

C5's all had the same calipers with the exception of the red paint/powder coat on the Z06.

Default Part Numbers for New Calipers

C5 (All non-Z06):

Front
'97-'04 12530682 (ACDelco #172-2219) RH
'97-'04 12530683 (ACDelco #172-2220) LH

Rear
'97-'04 12530684 (ACDelco #172-2221) RH
'97-'04 12530685 (ACDelco #172-2222) LH

C5 Z06

Front
'01-'04 88895129 (ACDelco #172-2264) RH
'01-'04 88895128 (ACDelco #172-2263) LH

'01-'04 88895131 (ACDelco #172-2266) RH
'01-'04 88895130 (ACDelco #172-2265) LH

Only difference on Z06 cars is color (Red) and pad compound. There is no "Z51" unique caliper for any C5 model.

C6Z06 will require a 18" wheel.. what they mean by that is they run 4 STOCK REAR wheels with differnt sized tires up front.

Now the C6 Z51 are a slight upgrade but not worth even doing .8" larger in front. and calipers are basically the same so not worht the time there either.

Edit:
C6 Brake Caliper Piston size's
Front caliper piston diameter is 40.5mm each piston (both systems).
Rear piston diameter is 45mm on base, 42mm on Z51

C5 Brake caliper Piston size (Per http://lukeskaff.com/?page_id=333 )
Front 44.45mm
Rear 45mm

Found a great site with all the measurements and specs you would need if you are making a "DYI Brake upgrade" setup:

I've been seeing the C6Z51 rotors pop up on Amazon for the same price as the C5 rotors.

If you have to replace and have 17's up front, I'd opt for the C6 GM AC Delco replacement, they look a little different and run about the same price.

If you have 18's up front, go for the Z51 rotors, of course you'll need the bigger brackets also.

I run C6 calipers on my 2002 coupe, they were on the shelve and look unique, cheap 100-200 replacement

.02

And Yes on all C5 rotor/caliper=Same.

I am pretty sure they were talking about 17" 2002+ ZO6 wheels...There is a thread on here...let me see if I can find it.

Ok gang...as always, this Forum is a wealth of information! Gonna keep my calipers, have 'em painted gloss black, and go to the Z50 rotors and needed brackets. That'll be nicer than stock and since I cannot get the C6Z06 caliper on the fronts...well THIS will be nice!
