Drive your car around Talladega superspeedway!
There is a charity called vettes4vets they are holding it in Talladega Al the last weekend of May 2013. Entry is $100 and you get to run your Vette or sportscar (no pickups or mini vans) around the track 5 laps twice for a total of 10 laps. I just spoke with Jeff Williams who organizes this event anually and he said there are 100 spots available as of today. If these spots don't fill up we may not see this event happen next year. Convertables welcome and helmets are NOT required.

This will be my first time running my vette at Talladega, but from what I've learned from the youtube vids and comments is the pace truck runs 70 mph but every one spaces out and gets "spirited" but with no passing the car in front of you. Look up the vids on YT, they're pretty descriptive... (grin)
Keep in mind that if the idea of running your vette or other sportscar around Talladega is something that gives you wood, you can purchase as many sessions as you wish. In other words $100 buys two 5 lap sessions (10 total laps) but you can buy more. ($200 for 4 sessions 20 laps)
Jeff says he'd like to get you guys registered this month so he can send out everyones papers in the mail by May 1st.
I know there's some CF members here who've ran their vettes around Talladega in past years and hopefully they will chime in. Maybe someone can spread the word about this event down in the C5, C4, C3, C1&2 forums. (Beermug slam)

This will be my 4th trip. The pace car or truck runs 90MPH and you need to maintain a minimum of 70 to stay up on the banks.
Many including myself have hit 150 on the back stretch and a few others upward to 170 as a short blast. You have to behave yourself and kinda go with the flow or they have been know to cut the session short and make that group go into the pits or worst make you leave the track.
You can also wait till the end of the event and time permitting purchase additional session for 25. per 5 laps. We usually get in an extra 10 to 20 laps at the end of the day. I thibk they still have it where you give a Vet a ride at the end of the day it's half or free for doing so.
Go to the Southeast section. There is a thread titled " Talladega Baby, Who's in". There are pics and a video posted from last years event and sign up and Hotel info.
I had just heard that there was still a lot of slots available and quite surprised that it's not fill up. It was by this time last year. Jeff runs a tight smooth ship and the event flows great.
My Avatar pic is me coming thru the gate heading to the track. Yes, I run with the top down...

This will be my fourth trip as well. The 427 is going this year.
Here's a front stretch shot from 2011. Still doing over 80 at this point.
The back stretch is where the fun begins. This was coasting down approaching turn 3 also in 2011. We hit close to 160 but I couldn't snap the photo quick enough. The top is down.
For those that have never been, entering turn one is an experience every Vette owner should have.

Any of you vert owners that can go to this should consider yourselves blessed. I would do it in a second if it were not an 9 hour drive each way. The (local to me) Daytona track does not permit verts on any track events anymore, and all the events seem to require not only a helmet but a fire suit also...
