"low oil level" readout
First, let me say my 02 Z has used no measureable oil in 1400 miles.
I recently parked the car for several hours on a decline. When I returned to the car to start it, the "low oil level" on the DIC was indicated. Knowing the car has not consumed any oil, and knowing there was no leakage, I started the car and drove off. I thought the sensor is most likely in the rear of the pan, so once underway the "low oil..." would disappear. It did not. At the first level opportunity, I turned the engine off and restarted and all was fine. When I got home, I checked the oil and the level was fine.
I would have thought the data for the readout would be continuous, not just "start up". If it is only start up, could this mean, if you "start up" with proper level, then lose oil during that run, the low level will not be indicated until the switch is turned off, then on again? I know a drop in "pressure" is an indicator but not always the best. Anyone have any tecnical info on this?

Re: "low oil level" readout (allgoodhits)
I believe that once the "low oil" comes on it stays on to let the driver know of a possible problem. Turning the car off resets it. The low oil light will come on during driving if you loose oil also.
