Default Where is the reverse lockout solenoid located?

Had the common problem of my reverse lockout solenoid not working. So, I ordered a new solenoid (part # 19178634) from Gene. From what I've read, the solenoid is located on the passenger side of the tranny. Well, I removed what I thought was the solenoid only to find that the old part required a 23mm wrench and the new one is a 27mm. Additionally, the threaded portion of the new solenoid is much larger than the old one. Did I remove something other than the reverse lockout solenoid? If so, what did I remove and where is the reverse lockout solenoid located?

Pictures would be very helpful. Thanks.

Default lockout

Here's one link

Easier to remove the assembly, once the single bolt is removed it pulls out to the right side. when installing be sure the trans is in N so it can be pushed back in all the way against the housing. I just changed mine. nothing like being under a Corvette, hugging the trans! There was another post with much better picture but I'm having difficulty finding it now. It's really about a 30 minute job,

Now I know why there are no clear pictures of the reverse lock out solenoid - it's on top of the tranny and a real B*TCH to get at. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid the dealer to install it. Getting at the bolt that holds the solenoid is done by feel - you cannot see the bolt and it's VERY tight up there. I consider myself to be mechanically inclined (I rebuilt the engine on my '70 350 and put a new clutch in my son's WRX.) Also, because I did not get the solenoid in perfectly flat, the car would not go into 5th gear. As such, I had to remove the solenoid and make sure it was seated correctly.

It sounds like after a false start you got it to function correctly.

Yes - is a pain to get to with the tranny in place. Here are a few pics.

Patches......Great pictures of the solenoid. With the tranny out, I hope you replaced the solenoid.
