The OEM fill coolant should have been Dexcool. I'd stick with that. I have seen Dexcool for only about a buck a gallon more than regular green stuff.

I agree, go with Dexcool, it is excellent for the aluminum parts and it cools better then the old green stuff.
I would stick with DexCool if the car came with it. I would also stick with Green if the car came with that.
Good time to replace the radiator cap and check all the hoses as well.

If you switch from green to dexcool you might have a problem with the radiator cap not sealing. That's what happened to me when I did it and I've hear several other say the same thing. I would personally use the dexcool.

I have been using Redline Water Wetter on my cars, it keeps the heat down to a constant level where it is manageable. SO far so good. I have been using it on my race acars and my 69 427 that runs hot. :cool:

I'm not sure what Water Wetter has to do with this thread, but since it's brought up I'll respond. I think WW is best used with nothing but water as a base, this of course will aid cooling (the water) and the WW will be the corrosion inhibitor and wetting agent. All coolants have corrosions inhibitors and wetting agents.
Personally don't see any advantage to adding "water wetter" to anti-freeze, but open to opinions. I see some downsides to adding WW to either green (adding different corrosion inhibitors / perhaps downside), and DexCool is perhaps unstable by itself - let alone with some additives.

Sorry! I should have said that I have drained the entire contents of some of my hot rod project motors and instead used Redline Water Wetter instead of your conventional coolants. I would never mix coolants anyway. In fact, I try to drain, flush and replace coolants on a periodic basis. Corrosion in a cooling system is very bad. A lubricant is also needed to keep seals in top shape. If I did not know what coolant was used in a vehicle, I have been know to drain, flush and replace it with fresh coolant and additives that are compatible. My apologies if I have caused any confusion.

Honestly I'm a little confused about the issue. Hib posted up a few months ago and said that WW uses the same inhibitor package as DexCool so is completely compatible. So to me this is a quandry!
I don't like the idea of adding anything to DexCool as it seems to be a bit less stable than Green. However I also am concerned about adding DexCool based inhibitor package to Green for the same reasons! So no water wetter for me, except if I was running in pure water only {which was of course the orginal intended use}.

I use green and Distiled water. I don't think cooling systems are very sensitive to different types of coolant. You could probably pis in your radiator and it wouldn't hurt it. Thats a joke. :lol:

Actually urine has a fairly low pH which would cause corrosion in an aluminum cooling system and wear on seals and gaskets. I would not recommend urinating in the cooling system, or using a urine based coolant.
Gm went through a bunch of testing before changing to DexCool, and this lead to some significant changes in the management of the cooling system. All this to be able to say that they have a 100,000 mile coolant. BS.
No subsitute for good maintanance, no matter the coolant.
