Broken axle caused by sub freezing temps?
A while back I had a boot on my driver side axle rip causing it to whine pretty bad, so I replaced it with the advance auto parts one. I was told this axle could withstand over 500whp.
Now I had been doing nitrous launched to test the car and it seemed to work like butter.
Another thing that should be known is I have a 3.90 diff from RKT56 and had 28 x 12.50 x 16 slicks on the car.
Funny thing is... while it was 27-28 degrees outside, I was driving home and just joyfully ripped the car open (Only 365whp N/A) from a 20 mph 1st gear roll. And when I shifted pretty good to 2nd, the car snapped and I had to pull into a parking lot.
I'm tearing the car apart today to confirm it was the axle. I couldn't figure out what would cause this other than it was sub freezing temperatures making the axle literally freeze and make it shatter prone to becoming brittle. Can this really be the cause?
Thanks!

Will post pics in a few to show what damage was done.
EDIT: Btw, there was zero wheel hop. It dead hooked. If all else, the optimism is my new tires rock. :P

The cold weather didn't have much to do with the metal breaking as much as you probably experienced a little wheel hop due to the cold weather and cold tires and that breaks parts in any weather.
What output shafts were in the rear end?
I know Rick does a great job building rear ends but if you experienced wheel hop, that is the most likely cause.

Then add 200.
I tried ET Street Radial II's on my car at 36lbs and the car was super unstable for my driving style. I took them off after 70 miles.
I can't imagine trying to drive "briskly" in anything but a straight line with the slicks at 14psi.

Your only option would be OEM C6 ZO6 output shafts but, I would have guessed that you already had those. If not thats what I would use...

Yup. Have em. I'm just worried the axle broke off near the diff and possibly put debri into the diff.
Wish it would stop snowing/raining so I can pull the car up my driveway with my tractor into the garage.

They are Half shafts or CV Shafts.
The video was multi-purpose to show someone specific the 3 axles I had. Just put the video up on here to show where/how the one that broke, did so.
It's amazing to me that 360rwhp (Probably less with 5 degrees pulled) was about to snap this axle on a 1-2 shift when it's supposedly able to withstand 600rwhp.
Put it up for people who want to know.
Thanks for the response,

The CV joint shattered? I've heard about the stub that goes into the diff braking off those axles before.
And no, temp has nothing to do with it unless you're driving in something like -50*F or worse....
