Default Seat Back Flex

Question - on my 2003. The driver seat itself is solid, no movement unless moved on prupose. However the seat back seems to flex more on the drivers or door side of the seat back more than the other side. So if you leaned back into it, you could feel a slight differnce between one side vs. the other - you could go back a little further on one side then the other. This is the seat back only. Looking at the rocking seat info in the search, this doesn't seem like I have that problem but rather a seat back issue. I have held the adjustor lever and moved the seat back and forth and it doesn't seem to be different. Maybe that adjustor is loose or wron some how?? Anyone come across this, worn parts or just something lose? Thanks

I want to say my 2000 C5 has this as well. It's like the whole seat back can twist left and right independent of the seat bottom, at least more then you would like with the outside definitely having more play to push back then the inside.

IIRC I think others who had the problem had to replace the seat to fix, but I could be mistaken. I'll have to go check my seat to see how prominent the problem is currently.

Always thought the seats were flimsy, wish they were like the seats in my G37S sedan!

The "seat twisting" problem is different to the normal rocking seat fix

One side of the seat back seems to give way and won’t support your weight causing the seat to "twist".

It’s an easy procedure and worth trying before replacing cables.

Adjust the unoccupied seat to the fully forward position

Recline the seat to the fully rearward position and release the recliner handle to lock the seat back

Release the unoccupied seat to the fully upright position and release the recliner handle to lock the seat back. This will allow both the outboard and the inboard recliner mechanisms to release and resynch to the fully upright position

Check the seatback recliner mechanism for resynchronization by applying pressure with your hand to the headrest.

There’s a TSB published which covers the problem:
