Default EBCM issue

I got a new EBCM to fix the C1255 code. I installed it and it now throws 5 new codes. The old model number is 09356961 and the new model number is 09360921. This part was found somewhere in TN by my mechanic. Apparently the dealer has these on backorder. Did I get the wrong EBCM?

Where can I buy a replacement of the old one other than from the dealer?

Thanks and

Thanks for the reply. How do I know if I have active control brakes?

Do you think the EBCM I got, model number 09360921 is just the wrong part and that's why I have 6 Trouble codes now instead of one? FWIW, it plugs in and bolts up like the old one that is supposedly bad.

Brandon can't fix the old one, unfortunately.

What year is the car?

The RPO code JL4 = Active Handling System - Look on driver side door or in glove box for this code

What are the 6 codes you are getting?

It's a 99 FRC

No JL4 code, it's got a JL9 though.

Here are the TCS codes:

1247, 1271, 1272, 1282, 1283, 1285, 1296. They all have H(istory) and C(urrent) except 1283 which is H only.

I have replaced the EBCM twice now and still have the same codes. I have seen reference to Active Control Brakes, which supposedly I have on my car. I have a JL9 option, not the JL4 which I read was Active handling. The EBCM that I currently have on my car is 09376711. Is there a chance that I need the other EBCM for non active control brakes? Thanks

I suspect that is true. I have always interpreted that term to mean Active Handling. C5s all have ABS/TC at a minimum so to me non-active control brakes means the brakes are not applied to individual wheels.

Go to your local dealer with your VIN and get an estimate for how much it would cost to buy a new EBCM. Make sure they include the part number in the estimate.

Bill, from what you have above, that tells me that the difference between the modules should be whether it has JL4 or not. Active Handling. I gave the VIN to both dealers I bought the EBCM's from and they both said I needed the EBCM 09376711. After decoding the VIN, the only way that I can see that they can deduce that it is a JL4 or not is by where in the sequence it was built. In my case, it was the 17,339th car built in 1999. They keep saying that I have active brake control, which I think is wrong. If they really mean Active handling, I don't have that either since I don't have JL4 RPO code. I will get a look at the wiring when I get home from work. Mine should match up with the non JL4 pinout.

Per pin 21 above: If you have JL4, I assume you have a Yaw Rate Sensor. I have the Yaw rate bias code. Does that mean I have JL4?

I may be missing something here but, if you press your taction control button the DIC should say traction controll AND active handling off or disengaged, or something like that, if you have active handling. If you don't, it will only tell you that you have turned off traction control. If you have active handling you should also be able to get into competive mode by holding the traction button down for about 5 seconds while stopped. it won't engage the competive mode if you are moving. My 1999 vert uses 09360921 which is ABS, TCS and AH {Active Handling}. I believe you have the wrong module for your car.

As it happens, I'm looking for a replacement module if you find out your new one is wrong for sure.

Per Bill's post above: The wire going to pin 17 is lt. blu, the wire going to pin 19 is white, the wire going to pin 20 is lt grn, there is no wires going to pins 21 or 22 or 24, the wire going to pin 23 is lt blu. I would say that I do not have active handling on my car, which I already know because there is no JL4 on the glovebox sticker. Now, I just have to determine if the dealerships are using "active handling" and "brake control active" synonymously. If that's the case then I have the wrong module and both dealerships have a defective VIN decoding system.

If I have to eat one of the EBCM's I'll let you know and sell it to you for less than I paid.

and thanks to all the folks on Corvette Forum C5 tech that helped me fix my TCS problem. It took three times R&R of the EBCM, two different stores, and a little convincing with info from the help on C5 tech to get the correct EBCM for my car. I did not have to eat either one of the wrong EBCM's either. Not sure if they are affiliated or a sponsor of THE Corvette forum but a big thanks to rmsautoparts.com for being patient with me and getting me the right part. Total damage $400.

If you have the TCS 1255 code, start talking RSO codes right away with your parts guy. What I understand is one EBCM is for JL4 and JL9 codes and the other is for except JL4. Don't let them go by your VIN, at least on a 99 FRC. My VIN came up in both systems as being JL4 and JL9 even though it is JL9 only and "except JL4".

After doing the same job 3 times, I found that it is quicker to do the job shortly after driving the car home from work. That way the warm coolant drains quicker after removing the tiny petcock from the radiator. It is much easier with the upper radiator hose removed. Use torx bits that attach to 1/4 inch extensions rather than trying to use the bits that you use with 1/4 inch sockets. That 5th bolt in the bottom middle is deceiving, as who would expect there to be a bolt underneath a rubber grommet that has aluminum over it with a stud with a 10mm nut on it.

Again,

yes there is a good chance you have the wrong part, i also have the wrong part. i have 16257049 and 807008620 which is a non active handleing module and pump and i need a09376711 module new #19244084 and pump # 10417038. the best way i know is to ck your console for a active handleing botton in front of the storage compartment on the console. it is a round button clearly marked active handleing.

Does it follow that JL4 would have an active handling button on the console and JL9 wouldn't? Just trying to sort out the differences myself and following your thread.

Sorry I don't have anything productive to add but when you get all this straightened out I'll (we'll) all be a little more educated on the differences and be able to sort them out quicker.

1247, 1271, 1272, 1282, 1283, 1285, 1296. They all have H(istory) and C(urrent) except 1283 which is H only.

here is what i know, there is only 1 part that will work in a 1998-2000 front mounted in front of the engine to the lft in front of the power steering pully. also you have to have active handleing. you have to have 4 wheel abs, 4 sencors. the module hast to # 09376711 the new obsilete # is 19244084 the pump # is 10417038. the 5 dealers around here all say the same thing, no other # will work. i have heard that # 0936061 new #19244085 is a good # but every dealer ship i have been to says the same thing. they could be good #`s i don`t know. i wish someone could lift their hood and put the orignal #`s for the 1998 with automatic transmission, front mounted, with active handleing, and 4 wheel abs 4 sencors . this mite help me clear this 2 year nite mare up. my abs unit was stolen before i got the car so i have to go to the deaers around here for the part #`s. thanks!!!!!!!!!!
