Default C6 oil pan on a C5??

I've got a 2002 C5 that has the batwing pan like all do & i'm about to pull the LS1 to put in a new bullet and I want to make sure that this rumor is true.
Can a LS2 or LS3 C6 oil pan fit on a C5 with no mods? I'm assuming I'll need the pickup but will the deflector, gasket, & dipstick stick work from my C5?

Yes... but you should do your research on it's advantages/disadvantages.

Yes the LS2 pan will fit. My friend used one in his 427 build. It also allows you use C6 headers I believe so the market for 1 7/8 primaries is bigger. I stayed with my batwing pan on my LS3 C5 because I believe it controls the oil a lot better especially on high G turns and I do a few hpde a year.

I've tried to search for advantages/disadvantages but nothing really came up, AVB can you list a few? My car is mainly used for dragracing these days not much hardcore cornering anymore

My main reason for wanting to go with the LS2/3 style is gaining clearance around the headers & front cradle and ease of engine removal.

I've also heard that the C6 style has another quart of oil capacity?

This has been discussed in the roadrace section by real racers. Batwing for wet sump systems, LS2/3 for dry sump.

American Racing Headers has been making 1.75/.825 and 2.0 inch headers for years in C5 and C6 fitments

The LS2 pan fits in the C5, I have this setup

I just said the market is "bigger" for the C6's. You get a few more choices in manufacturers.

I ended up buying a "new" take off pan, deflector, dipstick, gasket, and pickup for $235 to my door off of Ebay. Compared to GM prices, other Ebay'ers etc I thought this was a good deal.?!

Very interesting on the C6 headers on a C5.... I'm in need of a set of 2" primaries from American Racing Headers really bad!

I bought a C6 LS3 Oil Pan off a guy that bought a crate motor. It was installed on my '09 LS3 that I am building and will be put in my '97 C5 over the winter.

I am hoping that it fits with no issues. Plus I am all for more clearance for bigger headers. Might need a set down the road.

Default It Works

I have a C6 oil pan on my ERL LS3. I changed over because the stroker crank in the 454 required a little more room.
