Default C5 remote central locking

Do the very early C5's have remote central locking ? I have asked the question here in the UK and haven't found an answer yet. I have tried a GM key fob and ventured into the menu on the dash but my early C5 doesn't seem to have the option to ' train ' or talk to the key fob. Central locking works with the key which opens the passenger door and trunk lid but it would be nice to have the option to use remote locking.
I have owned the car for the last seven years and even in toy town Britain it is the ultimate sports car attitude.
Any advice will be appreciated.

I think all C5's have the same key fob programming. Take a look at the following link for post #2 that explains how to program and/or resync the fob.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...g-problem.html

Also make sure that your GM fob is the right one. On the C5's the 1999 to 2000 fobs will program to the early cars. Later C5's (2001-2004) will not work with the earlier cars.

Good luck.

ALL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, C5s have the use of the FOB for locking/unlocking/trunk and panic alarm.

You MUST retrain your FOBs to get them to work with the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) and the Body Control Module. (BCM)

To program the FOB/s, use the OPTIONS button and scrool thru the menu until you come to a BLANK page.

This is directly out of the 2002 C5 OWNERS MANUAL (all fob programming is the same for all years!)Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle!

Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to
prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be
purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any
remaining transmitters with you when you go to your
dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement
transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters
must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the
new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock your
vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of three
transmitters matched to it.
To match transmitters to your vehicle:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver
Information Center (DIC) by pressing the
RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several
times until the blank page is displayed, then press
and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed,
press the RESET button once. The message HOLD
LK + UNLK 1ST FOB in the DIC will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the
first transmitter simultaneously for five seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned (matched), the DIC
will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you
to learn the second transmitter.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the third transmitter.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
The programming mode will shut off if any of following
has occurred:
You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.

IF you follow this procedure and it doesnt work, your fob has a bad battery OR it isnt working OR both. If you have tire pressure readings, the RFA is working properly and sending data to the BCM.

You should fill out you avaitar so we know more info about your car.. What year is your C5. I would have provided you a direct link to a PDF copy of your cars Owners manual.

Use GOOGLE and type in the search block (GM C5 Owners Manuals) or just go to this link:

Here is the link for the COMPLETE 2002 Owners Manual:

http://www.ufgop.org/browse/a2V5d29y...J2ZXR0ZS5wZGY=

Here is the page that it was found on. All the C5 Owners manuals can be found for FREE on line in PDF format!

http://www.ufgop.org/pdf/c5-corvette-service-manual/

Please let us know how you make out on your FOB Programming.

Once you TRAIN your FOBs to your c5,, you can perform a FOB SYNC Procedure by pressing and HOLDING the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the FOB until the horn toots.

You should also get famular with reading your OWN DTCs from the front seat!

Follow this procedure anytine you would like to see whats wrong with your C5:

READING YOUR C5 Engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)

This procedure should be carried out any time you experience a problem with your C5. Most inexpensive store bought aftermarket code readers will ONLY read power train DTC’s. Reading the DTC’s with the C5 built in code reader will allow you to read ALL the modules in the vehicle.

The Diagnostic Display Mode is entered with the following procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the RESET button to turn off any warning messages. (i.e. door open, trunk open ect)
3) Press and hold the OPTIONS button
4) While holding OPTIONS, press FUEL button four times within a 10 -second period.

Initially, the on-board diagnostics go into an Automatic Mode which will cycle through each module and shows diagnostic codes in a pre-set sequence: PCM - TCS - RTD - BCM - IPC - RADIO - HVAC - LDCM - RDCM - SCM - RFA. All codes will be displayed for each module. ( i.e. PCM = 4 codes) If none are present in a given module, you will see No More Codes on the display.

There are two types of diagnostic codes, Current and History designated with a letter suffix, “C” or “H”. A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the module displaying data. A history code indicates a problem existed sometime in the last 40 or 50 ignition cycles. When not accompanied by a current code of the same number, it's potential evidence of a previous problem, now resolved, that was not removed by clearing the codes. More likely it's an indication of an intermittent malfunction.

Intermittent codes are the most challenging of the diagnostics. An intermittent code may have happened once, may have happened more than once but is inconsistent or may be happening on a regular basis but not at the time the codes are displayed. History codes can also be caused by a current malfunction in a system that is not operating at the time codes are displayed. An example is the rear window defogger which doesn't operate until the Body Control Module detects engine rpm. For history codes set by a module that does not operate with the key on and engine off, a special diagnostic tool called a Scan Tester is necessary to properly diagnose the malfunction.

Once the system has displayed all modules, it goes into the manual mode which allows selection of each module using combinations of Driver Information Center buttons. Manual mode can also be entered during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except E/M. Once the display shows Manual Diagnostics, select a module by pressing the OPTIONS button to go forward or the TRIP button to go back. Once a module is selected, a code is displayed, and if more than one are present; press GAGES to go forward or FUEL to go back.
To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M. If you want to erase codes in a given module, press RESET To reset the codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until it displays NO CODES Press OPTIONS to go to the next module. Repeat the steps until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules.
NOTE!! Only reset the codes IF you want to - it is NOT necessary to do this. Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory. If you clear the code/s, and extinguish the Check Engine Light, your emissions status ready will NOT allow you to pass an emissions test until you have completed the required driving cycles. There are a few body module DTC’s that if set will prevent the module from operating properly. Once the DTC is cleared, the module will return to full function. This is not true for power train DTCs.

If you have never read and cleared your codes, there will probably be a lot of old history DTCs. It is recommended that you clear your codes and see if any come back during a driving cycle. Those are the ones that you need to concentrate on diagnosing.

Once you have the codes, the next question is: What to do with the information?
First, consult the factory service manual. Any serious C5 Do-It-Yourself owner should invest in the Corvette Service Manual of the appropriate model year. The Service Manual is really a requirement if you want to understand and work on your C5.

NOTE and a WARNING. You can read the DTCs while the engine is running. I pull mine up all the time while driving.
WARNING. Don’t become distracted while reading DTCs while your driving and cause an accident!!!!! Use common sense and drive safe.

These are some very good C5 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) explanation web sites!!! They also explain how to read the DTCs

Here are some very good sites that explain what DTC mean:

http://www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic11755.php

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...d-ii-codes.php

Make sure to include the H or C suffix when you post your DTCs!!

NOTE!!! Start the car and let it idle. Then take it for a drive and cause the problem to occur. When you return home pull the codes BEFORE you shut off the engine.

Do NOT discount the codes with the H following them. They can provide an audit trail for issues going on with the car. They ARE important in diagnosing problems.

Post ALL the codes that you pull with the engine running..........

Some codes go away WITHOUT setting an H code when you shut the engine off. I suspect you will have several codes that will show C or HC that do NOT show when the engine is turned off.

Default C5 remote central locking

Wow,
I had no idea how helpful this Corvette family was. Answers from all directions. I bought my C5 from Tom at Claremont Corvette's here in the UK seven years ago and it didn't come with a key fob, just the keys.
My problem may stem from using a key fob which only works with the later models. I will look into this a little deeper when I return to the UK. I am currently on Vacation in South Carolina and visit the US at least once every year. You guy's have it all over here and I sure wish I could stay.
Many thats for your guidance, it is so reassuring to know that the forum offers such wonderful support.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,, Its MUCH less expensive to purchase the correct FOBs here in the USA. So,, If you look on the internet and E Bay, you should be able to find some.

NOTE Early Fobs and TPS are more expensive than the late model units.

Welcome to the madness Malcolm.

You've been given excellent advice here and I can only add that it would be wise to obtain a GM owner's manual. It will give you a great deal of guidance on many of the features of your specific year model and be of assistance to you in the future. A great many features are common to all C5s, but there are some differences from year to year on others, so I would recommend finding your specific year model.

No longer in print, these OMs are frequently available either on EBay or I have also seen some available from forum vendors such as Vettenuts.net. The originals all came in a zippered (depending on year) "portfolio", but even if you can't locate a complete portfolio, the manual itself is very helpful.

HTH

Btw, speaking of vehicle locking, there is a feature referred to as "Auto Lock/Unlock" and it automatically locks both doors upon reaching a certain vehicle speed. IIRC, it's approx 15-17 mph. The feature can be turned on or off to your liking, via the DIC buttons. NOTE: Not all C5s left the factory with this feature, so if this feature does not come up on your "Options" list on your DIC, then your vehicle does not have it. This feature is separate and apart from the FOB locking business you inquired about, but it also deals with locks so I thought I'd mention it.
