Is this ( Z16 hood ) some of the technology being pulled forward by Dave Hill, a hint that the entire car will be made out of carbon fibre to get the car's weight down to magical numbers ?

see the aston martin vanguish $245K. carbon fiber frame with aluminum and carbon fiber body. that is where $3-$5k extra cost is coming from.

I have to ask. If 10 lbs can be saved on the hood what wieght savings would result by using this material for the entire car body?

Don't count on it...No one but the rich and famous would be able to afford one. Not only would it be astronomical costs for it to become a reality, but the problems they'd have in manufacturing would best be described as a nightmare imo.

I thought i had read somewhere that aluminum hydroforming was going to be used in the C6 so that will account for a lot of the weight savings.

carbon fibre frame is unlikely. cost just many have said and manufacturing.

they sell on average 30,000 vettes a year... you really think they could make enough CF body pieces? they're gonna have a hard enough time making enough hoods for the CE Z06s. heck, they had a hard enough time making about 6000 forged wheels for the '01 Z06s.

Carbon fiber would be impractical and not cost efficient, but it would hardly be surprising to see a different type of body material used to improve the paint adhesion and quality.

That's a known issue and something that reportedly is being addressed with the Caddy, and the C6 is expected to benefit from the changes. I notice lexan is being advertised surprisingly heavily.
