Default Those who switched from run flat tires

Hello all,

I an getting ready to buy new tires and trying to decide whether or not to stay with run flat tires. I know the pros and cons of run flat tires has been discussed on the forum in the past.

What I would like to know;

For those who did switch from run flats to a non-run flat tire, do you have any regrets and would you stay with the non-run flat tires when you need new tires again?

Thanks

It depends on your use.

If you don’t travel far from civilization and want more options, forget Run Flats.

I have two sets of wheels, one with run flats, these are for my long trips. Often there is 100+ miles to the nearest town out west, even more when I am driving after midnite. And who knows where the next tire store is? The extra margin they give are worth it. I don’t wanna be walkin’ in the middle of nowhere where there is no cell service, and the next friendly car could be half a day or more. For that matter I don’t want to be in east LA or NE New Mexico and worry about filling or changing a tire

My other set of wheels are non-runflats, they are on the car far more because the tires perform better, there are more options to match your driving. If I only had one set of tires I would not rule out non-run flats if the tires were best matched to my driving. Just throw a repair kit and compressor in the cubby.

In short, when the time comes I will replace my softer, quieter, smoother riding non run flats with a new set of softer, quieter, smoother riding non run flats and I will keep my compressor and tire repair kit right under the hatchback like always.

I plan on non-runflats when needed. get one of those small compresors that plug into the lighter and a bottle of Goop. #2 join AAA. If #1 don't work, chances are the tire is junk and you can get her flatbeded home.

I also plan on changing to non run flats for the ride and noise reduction. Handling improvements and gererally lighter tire weight are just more advantages. Like the others I already carry flat repair and a compressor.

Switched to non-run craps and never looked back. I do carry a repair kit and compressor just in case.

No regrets switching from run-flats. I'm usually not too far off the beaten path and only take long trips a few times a year. I do carry a sealant/compressor combo in the rear compartment just in case.

My original GY SuperCars were shot after around 9,500 miles and I replaced them with non-run flats (General Exclaims that are no longer available in the GS/Z06 size...) and have about 18,000 miles on them. Flat tires can happen but in my many years of driving I've only had to change one tire ever so I'm taking the chance. I did buy a small compressor and a plug kit for one of those odd times I'm far away from civilization and have no cellphone signal. When I had the non-run flats installed the difference was like daylight and dark. My car rode better and quieter. Unless I have no choice I will stick with the non-run flats.

I have a regret... I had the GY runcraps on my C6 for 1 1/2 years and switched to Nitto Invos and could kick myself for waiting a year and a half to switch. Never looked back and hugh difference in noise levels, grip and turn in bite.
I carry a Continental Comfort Kit just in case of a puncture (also have AAA, State Farm towing service [flat bed guaranteed]) >>

Some argue that the Conti system will damage the TPS and continues to be a point of disagreement (no one can confirm damage occurs with the Conti system...lots of opinions but short on facts) BUT in my mind if the TPS unit is damaged then replace...rather have a good set of tires under me that driving around on tires that are crap.

Tire Rack shows the only Non Run Flat All Season tire for base C6 is the
Continental ExtremeContact DWS Ultra High Performance All-Season
All the rest are Summer tires.
Are there any other A/S non run flats out there?

Nitto invo non-run flats on my ZO6. Best switch ever, should have done it the day I picked up toe car and not suffered with the GY. One does not have any idea how terrible the G Y OEM are until you get something worlds better.

Tire Rack isn't the only place to find tires. Search around! Tire Rack does have a large selection [usually] but they don't have every size/type/brand out there.

I switched to Nitto Invos back in December after putting 25K on my stock runflats. Why Nittos? Several reasons. When I had a C5 I replaced my stock tires with Nitto 555's and they were great tires. I live in Florida, where it's always summer and we have to have tires that'll handle rain. And last, price. So I do have an air compressor and a tire kit that I hope I'll never have to use. But the difference in handling, noise and ride makes the final decision.
Now, I'm about to go on a 3000 plus mile trip on these tires, so, I'll report in after I get back.
