I bought my 2001 corvette four years ago this December. The Pirelli P Zero run flats looked fairly new at the time but the wear strips are beginning to bridge the treads. After much research, I have decided to replace with Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ 2 non-run flats. I don't track my car and drive it all year long so summer tires are not needed. With that said, I'm wondering if the TPMS need any attention during the mounting process. They all function just perfect but the car is 21 years old and not sure if any/all have been replaced. Hopefully, these tires will last 4 to 5 years so what are the chances the TPMS will continue to function during that same time period? Replace now?

From reading other posts, it appears the TPMS batteries last around 10 years or so which means the TPMS in your car have probably been replaced at some time. It's just that you don't know when. That makes it kind of a crap shoot as to how much longer they will go. If it were me I would replace them when you get the new tires and have the peace of mind. I would tell the tire shop to train the sensors ahead of mounting them on the rims which makes it so much easier. Good luck.

I agree, why take a chance. I used these on my 2003 and they worked perfectly. 2001 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 5.7L V8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor | RockAuto Was able to programmed them off the car with a Magnet and just marked then for the tire installers when I got new tires.

I bought the Schrader ones from Rock Auto back in June when I needed tires. They had recent manufacture dates. 4 sensors + tax and shipping was just under $100. I programmed mine on the car with a strong flat magnet. They are working great.

I would probably go ahead and replace the sensors since you do not know when (or if) they have previously been replaced. Fortunately your car takes the less expensive sensors.

In my experience, some people like to get the most out of their tires. They either run them past the depth indicators or they just don't look at the depth indicators. 2 years ago i was following a bmw at ACS, Several cars behind him in the oval. Come to find out he had the metal cords showing when he came in. It could have been very bad for both of us if the tire blew in the Roval. He is not running anymore, has no passion for it anymore after 20 plus years.

Just did the same last year, 20 + years old, they're way over due. Bought magnet at home depot.
