The whole idea is to record a production Corvette, with in the regs of the rule book.

The current record holder has Panned his car and is running 26x4.5 on 6" rims. rear tires that are not rated for landspeed racing, but were a significant part of why his car is fast. The Tech guys let it pass, I was not there when his record was set so I could not protest it.

I don't think that aquiring a Sledghammer VIN is really in the same league as acquiring a '92^ ZR-1 VIN. Reletive to swapping all the parts and mods over to a '92^ car, swapping VINs isn't really "that much trouble".
Now if the OP doesn't want to swap for personal values reasons...that is a different story.

So this years attempt will be with a new hood in an attempt to get some down force on the front of the car to prevent Lift. The hood is designed after the current record holder car so we shall see. Why they allow hood modifications at all is a gray area, the rules state that if the carb sticks out of the hood, you must cover it with a shield. The current record holder is running a 87 vette with a nascar motor and tunnel ram and a huge hood scoop.

so I bought a used hood and made a mold, then poped it off, now it it being glassed back in and fitted

This is what I had in mind, but ended up moving the wedge forward, as the LT5 intake is so low,, I need a snorkel to get to the hood :-) Which I will have as I need to Protrude so that I can have a flash shield per the regs.

Dave:

Is that a '64 GTO in the background??? It may be a '65, hard to tell by the angle. I really hope to come out to Bonneville this year to see you run.

Dave:

Looking at the photos of your car versus the record holder, it appears that he has reinforcement to the front air damn to help keep it from distorting at speed (it could be salt, hard to tell). Is that something you have also done? I would think that would make a measurable difference in preventing air from getting under the car. Also, why would he have a "USA-1" plate with a clear cover on the front? Weight? Could it be possible he visited a wind tunnel and developed a license plate cover that slightly bettered the aero while still looking stock?!?!

He has duck tape on his spoiler, at the end of his run he has so much down force that his spoiler is rolled under the car, and it has new salt rash. I am not trying to get as much down force as he is, I am looking for that happy ground inbetween.

here are the latest pics, on the finial fitting prior to paint

yours is going to look better...his is way to high. Also since he has tunnel ram I don't see why you couldn't go with the Velocity stack setup.

Looks good. NOW......make a mold of that skin and lay up a lightweight skin.

Hey, it's just a lot more work.

USA, we have some nice velocity stacks that my brother made and Corey, then created his masterpiece, this is part of the reason, we continue to build HP all the way to 8500, That and a lot of money in the valve train :-)

Zoomies, had no x over, so we lost about 50 Hp on the dyno, but made up for it in aero. As we went about the same speed with less Hp. Learned alot.

Dave, Thank you for your support of the Texas Children's Hospital.

Missed the speed trails this year, hope to see you again next year.

Good luck!
