Default 96 Coolant Temp Sensor

Lt4 car, does the ecu care if it's getting coolant temp data? (As in will it adjust timing/performance?) From my research, it will throw a code saying the sensor is whack. That stated, its a track car and I have a gauge to monitor the temp. I used to have the sensor plugged into the back of the passenger head which was giving me a bad reading (too high). Wanted to replace the coolant temp sensor and utilize that port for the gauge sensor.

Yes. There are numerous settings and numerous tuning tables that take coolant temp into account.

Thanks! Guess I'll put the ecu temp sensor back in and move the gauge sending unit to one of the heater core ports I tapped and blocked off.
