Catalytic converter is fried
Looks like my cats are either clogged or fried (whatever the term is). Although I am not a mechanic, here are the reasons why I think this:
1. I smell burning with WOT (and it's not the tires)
2. It takes forever for my car to get to speed when I floor the gas especially in 3rd or 4th gear.
3. When I start the car, the right 2 exhaust tips doesn't blow as much smoke as the left 2.
4. My exhaust tips are covered in soot. And they have less than 1,000 miles on them.
I am thinking about getting the random cats.

Whaddya guys think? Oh, BTW... My car is a 98 Manual coupe with 30,000 miles. It's my daily driver in NYC. Thanks for the inputs.

Sounds like you were running rich to long, let us know how you make out. Now is a good excuse for some high flow cats.

My only question is... My car only has 30,000 miles on it. Why would the cats go so soon?

StuzVette had a hairball and just saw a huge gain in power...
...now... headers, hi-flow cats and X-pipe with B&B bullets

Something is either causing a rich fuel mixture or you are burning oil - either condition will fry a cat. You need to figure out what the problem is first before spending the $$ on new cats.

If your cats are clogged you can blow your motor, be careful.
Another good way to tell if they're clogged, after driving for a couple of minutes, pop the hood in a dark area. If they exhaust manifolds are glowing red, there's a very good chance the cats are clogged.
Time for some LT headers.

I agree, find the source of the problem before spending a lot of cash on new parts. You can always add the new cats/headers, etc if you want, but would not want more problems to appear down the road.
