I used a drum sander to put a radius relief on the edge of my covers. It was only about an 1/8" deep relief and did not reach gasket.
You will not see it, so don't sweat it. :D

The only real difference between 86 and 89, is the 89 did not have a cold start injector, both are MAF cars.
Stick your 86 intake and MAF etc, onto the 89, or use the 89 intake and get a 89 chip.

Does your test light up when probing both sides of fuse, during the 2 seconds of "ON" time ?

Sounds like your testing fuse terminal and then installing a blown fuse to test fuel pump terminal. :D

It could be possible that you are getting enough fuel for a short start, via the cold start injector.
I would check that the injectors are getting fired by ECM ground...

Run a wire from battery positive terminal to terminal "G" of the ALCL connector. That should give you power all the way to fuel pump.
Should help you test and see if pump runs.
