What does the lateral acceleration switch do?

IIRC there are two mercury switches in it used to detect yaw angle and used by the ABS system for stability control. Such as applying rear brakes in a turn if you slide. It's removed from my track car. The lateral accelerometer was under trim by the shifter from what I remember.
