I just can't negotiate the C6/ZO6 forum and people who have been monitoring every press release and rumor for the past 2 years.... but I did just read in CHP that the new ZO6 would fall a bit short of 500 hp, although the weight could be reduced to 3000 lbs... Anyway, should be fun to read the cries of disappointment and anguish from those who were expecting a Viper-beating 500 hp!
So the L88 vs ZO6 debate will continue.... (I just threw that in to make this post "C3 appropriate" )

There have been many rumors of the 'Blue Devil' Corvette. Should Chevy decide to finanicially back the program and actually produce/sell these it will not only raise the bar for the Viper and Ford GT, but the foriegn Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, and BMW products.
The Blue Devil will essentilly be a street title-able race car in my opionion. The C5 guys will have to take open up the check a little further to get one (if it's released).

Would love to see 500HP Z06, but with the weight reduction it shouldn't be necessary. 500HP is just for marketing anyways. Would rather see a superchargered or turbocharger version of the stock LS2.

I have read it will be 150 pounds lighter than the standard 2005 Corvette and "just under/nearly at 500hp."

When you get to that level of power the only thing that is going to **** people off is not having a shiney 500hp badge. So let them fat wallet ricers **** and moan, cause I ain't listening.

Horsepower isn't everything, getting the power to the ground is more important. This is something that the ZO6 does very well even now. I don’t think you will find many 360 Ferrari owners feeling too threatened.
Higher torque motors are harder to control around a road coarse than an another engine with the same horse power but at a higher rev band. Many years ago I took a great deal of criticism from Porsche, Lotus, Alpha, etc. owners because of the Vette's big V8 engines. They said it was like using a double headed axe when a rapier sword would have done a better job. This hurt and at the time I passed it off as a bit of jealousy on their part; but, I now see a bit of truth in the comparison, specifically between the Viper and the ZO6.
I love my Z very much and am not much motivated to change for a C6. Increasing the bore to 4.125", changing heads, cam, exhaust, etc. would make 500hp without too much difficulty and still be quite civilized. A 7500+ rpm ZO6 wouldn't be as stressful to the drive train as a long stroke 427 version (still very tempting!). For me, this would become more of a Ferrari in character. If I drive the car well, I don't think a 500 cubic inch Viper would be equal to the challenge.
I am looking forward to seeing what they will come out with for the HP version of the C6. But Chevy did such a good job with the C5 ZO6 I remain very content for the time being with what I've got.
