Default 4-spd Trans

1970 454
Car had been running OK. Battery was dead so car sat for a month. Installed battery, started in neutral. Tranny would not go into any gear. Clutch felt normal as before. Shut off engine, put into 1st gear and tried cranking with clutch engaged. Engine would not start as if clutch was not engaged, car just rocked forward. Does this sound like an adjustment problem or a clutch replacement?

Clutch siezed to flywheel? I don't know if that could happen after sitting for just a month. I had a similar problem with a '84 Laser that sat for 6 months. Clutch siezed on flywheel but it broke free and no damage done. Others will chime in.

try push starting it, that will free the clutch from the flywheel, just be ready on the brakes if it doesn't.

Had the same thing over a winter, it broke free. Is your garage humid?

I had this happen over night. Long story short, I drove my '69 through water that was much deeper than I thought. Deep enough that the car floated for several seconds. Anyway, made it home and the next morning the disc had rusted to the flywheel.

You can try putting it in gear and start it with the clutch in but make sure nothing is in front of you. Just in case it doesn't break free....
