You should never tap into the IGN circuit. Tap into the W/S washer motor circuit. It is key switched and won't interfere with the power supplied to the coil.

Unless you're modding the engine; ie cam, higher comp pistons, etc. just keep the LS5 intake and rebuild the carb. If you can't do it, have someone who actually knows what their doing do it for you. ...
