Yes, we are nit pickers.... But a "great" bunch of guy's.... As for judging, just expect the worse, and it wont be so bad. Just like previously stated, it's the best learning experience you will receive about your car.

Find a local chapter to join and offer the car for a judging school that most chapters have.

You can have it looked over by the chapter and get some pointers on where you might improve the car before actually presenting it for judging at an actual event.

I bet you would even have a little fun.

Thanks, guys! You aren't bothering me. If I saw something I wanted to comment about, I'd say what was on my mind, too!

I'm going to sign him up for sure. I went to the website and started filling things out, and realized I don't remember his house number. I'll get that tonight and buy a membership. I'm sure we can figure this out!

Yes, exactly and usually by people that couldn't spell NCRS if they had a bowl of alphabet soup in front of them.

Orange, if you do wish to pursue the NCRS avenue, there's more to it than just showing up once for a meet and standing back. Almost all cars needed to be gone through and prepped to a certain degree to ensure that they're at their best during judging. Most chapters would be happy to organise a session and look at your car prior to a formal meet. Join up and find out.

Orange 01 SS,
Once you have joined NCRS I would suggest you do the following. Call the regional VII director for your area Gary Chestnut and ask him all of the questions you may have about judging, etc. He is a great guy and will help you gain the insight into NCRS you are looking for. You can reach him at gchesnut@charter.net or 817-579-5242.

I would also suggest that you consider taking a little drive to Des Moines, Iowa on May 20-22 and observe cars being judged at the NCRS Heartland Regional meet. Introduce yourself to the Tom Hincz, (another great guy) regional director for region V. Watch the judging process, ask more questions and enjoy the beautiful cars.

Tell both of the guys that Garry Barnes referred you to them.

Find out when the KC Chapter is going to have its' next chapter meet by contacting Gary Martin 816-524-3751 (I don't know him). Your dad has a great looking car and I can assure you that all of the guys would welcome the opportunity to see it up close and personal. Having your car judged isn't just about winning a certificate. It is about learning things about your car and how it looked and operated when it left the factory. It is a wonderful way to share time with your dad and something that you both will remember. Good luck.

Not intended to step on ANY toes, the nit-picking happens whether you're tuned into the NCRS forum, here on the Corvette Forum and I would assume 99.9% of other car forums. I mean you want to see nit-picking list your pride and joy for sale in the For sale forum and watch as many attempt to beat ya down to the point you're thinking "DAMN I should just GIVE the car away!!"

On the other hand nit-pickings not to be construed as always negative. Many time others may point out something an owner may miss. And you won't find a better eductated, more informed bunch of nit-pickers than here on the CF AND the NCRS forum. And I say that as a COMPLIMENT!!

Orange 01 SS get your Dad involved in NCRS. If nothing else it will give you and him another reason to spend time together. From your profile and your posts it sounds like you both enjoy the classics and you won't find a better place than an NCRS event to find a bunch in one place.

It's the best 35 bucks you'll ever spend. You and your Dads should join together. The KC Chapter has a Great bunch of guys..
By the way your Dads car looks GREAT. You dont get to see mostly original cars very often.
Good luck to you and your Dad. Bill

That's the main thing! We're really close, but this seems to happen less and less all the time.

Anyway, I appreciate all your suggestions.

It is a beautiful car! Join NCRS even if your dad does not go that route. Most of the guys are great people. There are people who appreciates both groups (non-ncrs and ncrs). Even the NCRS guys can appreciate a dragged out C1.

Judging at any level is not my taste though going to the shows are well worth it.

Your dad did a great job keeping it up!

Definitely join the NCRS. There is no better place to get accurate info. about your car. Nobody likes to hear negative things about their car. Some call it "nit picking". Others consider it an education. It's all in how you look at it. I've owned both original and modified Corvettes. I've also been a NCRS member for 25+ years.

Orange 01 SS,
Shriner cars are pretty rare, save ANY documentation from the Shriners and make sure the NCRS people are aware of it's history. Good luck with your first show, you will enjoy it! Bill

Orange 01 SS,

That car looks like a time capsule and your Dad sounds like a perfect fit in the NCRS! Call the number Garry provided for the KC chapter and show up at their next meeting if you can. You don't have to join right away. If you like what to see after a couple of months join the National membership for $35 and then if you want to have your car judged, you are set to go.

You are also welcome here in Wichita. The Midway USA chapter of NCRS would love to have you both as members. We are having a chapter judging event in late Sept.

As others have mentioned, there is no better way to learn about and enjoy an original car than to become involved in the NCRS.

Here is a link to our discussion board. Click the Technical discussion link when you get there.

Hope to hear more from you in the future,

Tracy Crisler
Judging Chairman
Midway USA Chapter of the NCRS
