1966 stock size steel wheels
 

I am just in the process of blasting and painting the wheels on my 66 and it turns out that they are 15 x 5.5's. is that correct for the stock steel 1966 wheels?

Yes!

Yes. 63-66 are 15 X 5.5 and the 67 ralley's are 15 X 6. KO's are 15 X 6.

Would anyone happen to know what the offset is supposed to be on these? Is this measured to the very outer edge of the rim?
When car is jacked up at rear with daylight under between the tyre and floor I have the transverse spring end interfering with the RH rear rim.
I'm just wondering if the rims have the correct offset.

Spring shouldn't interfer.. If no one has the data handy, I'll dig out my original rims and measure them for you.. I'll follow the thread..

back spacing should be 3 5/8" (just measured my originals)

That is measured from the inner most edge of the rim to the mounting surface.

I will measure wheel, when it comes back from Compliance test and add to thread. They also picked up this wheel interference and reckon the spring is not centred. It looks centred to me. They seem to think it is just a matter of moving the spring. I do not think it is as simple or as easy as this somehow

As I recall, there is a small hole in the center of the spring with a nut/bolt that holds the spring elements together. The bolt fits into a small locating hole when the spring is mounted. Any side to side movement will be extremely small (<1/8") due to this locator.

I will get to see tommorow when I get to pick the car up, all registered to legally drive on our roads Yeeehaaaa.
I have of course driven it illegally but now I can go down a decent stretch of highway and have some fun and no doubt also find out a few other things that need fixing.
I'm sure the wheels need aligning but that will have to wait until I install all the new bushes etc.

Have measured the offset
102mm (4") If your wheels are orig standard that makes mine from something else. That extra 30mm (3/8") is obviously making clearances to tight. With a forty year old car these wheels could be off any GM car.
This might be a good time to start thinking replacing with a nice set of alloy wheels and tyres !!

1966 tyre sizes, I am looking to buy some white wall tyres will 215/70/15 fit on my 66 vett without rubbing or should I go 205/75/15 they are steel wheels. What looks the best?

WOW a thread that is 5 years old!!!!!! lol

Either size will work - however, with 205/75's, there is ZERO chance for any rubbing under any circumstances. With 215/70's, rubbing is possible at full steering lock and suspension compression (like entering a driveway). :thumbs:

I put 205/75s on mine, think it looks about right, could be a little tight with 215x70s
