1997 terrible radio reception
Where is the antenna in these things? What can be done to make it better? It is so bad that there must be something wrong with it.
I did search for a few minutes and found nothing on it but that doesn't mean anything... Thanks for the help.

So I cleaned the contacts where the plugs plug into the antennas front and back and it seems a little better but still is pretty bad. I am wondering if cleaning the plug in the back of the radio would help?
Anyone else have a way to better the reception?

I have a stock 2000 coupe and my radio reception is excellent. Just so you know that it is probably specific to something not being right on your setup, not generally across the board on all Vettes.

I would replace the head unit and speakers if i thought it would solve the problem. MP3 is the way to go instead of a changer.

what it is, the factory radio reception is good as the rest but the radio sound quality is what sucks, cd's are great but the sound of the radio is terrible. xm thru modulator is even terrible. everything that is direct conected to these radio would sound excellent. Deal with it or pull it out and prepare to rewire vehicle because once you take that factory radio out you will loose the door woofers.

Yes, in fact I did! The FM (front inglass antenna) works fine. The AM (rear glass) now has a lot of static. OK, but somewhat annoying. I asked them about it and they said they do not use sandpaper or take the plug off or anything, because they know how thin the wires are.
Problem minor, but unresolved.

Brett, I have a 2000 coupe with bad reception also. It appears to be both in the am and in most of the fm channels. I am hoping the have several weekends available soon and then start emailing England Green for advice. He has done an out of this world system and a write up on what he did. I will not go to the extent he did but he certainly has some great ideas, knowledge and expereince if you are thinking of replacing your unit.

Brett/rcknusa you guys might check to verify that the antenna plug on the back of the radio didn't come disconnected. I've seen this happen in other GM cars and it makes the radio absolutly horrible to listen to. Best of luck.

Certain kinds of window tint reduce radio reception. It says that in the manual. I think it's the metalic window tint that can cause the problem.

The radio in my 1999 coupe, got bad reception on the AM band only. The FM reception was very good. My 2004 coupe gets good reception on both AM and FM.

I have been told that they make an interface to keep the woofers after a head unit swap. I was told this by a car shop here in Houston.

The Soundgate CRV-1 interface keeps all the speakers in working order. I have one with my Kenwood DVD player and it works great. If you only want to replace the head unit, I highly recommend picking one of these up.

Which one? I have the Kenwood Excelon DDX 7015 and I haven't installed it yet due to the fabrication necessary for installation. Is yours a Double Din as well, and how did you do it?
